Before we go into the depth of P7 Learning System let us first of all understand what is learning. While surfing web I discovered various meaning of learning as follows:
- The cognitive process of acquiring skill or knowledge; “the child’s acquisition of language”
- Learning is acquiring new knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, preferences or understanding, and may involve synthesizing different types of information. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals and some machines. Progress over time tends to follow learning curves.
- An act in which something is learned; Accumulated knowledge; Something that has been learned
- The acquisition of knowledge or skill. It occurs in, and may lead to changes in, the brain.
- An exercise of constructing personal knowledge that requires the learner to be mentally active rather than passive; interpreting rather than …
- A change in behavior as a result of experience.
- A process of adaptation by which synapses, weights of neural network's, classifier strengths, or some other set of adjustable parameters is automatically modified so that some objective is more readily achieved. The back propagation and bucket brigade algorithms are two types of learning procedures.
So many technical and non-technical understanding is derived from all above web definitions. Yet if you have to define learning how would you do that? Ponder your mind for a while on this word learning and see what comes up in your mind. I have done this exercise with several hundred thousand people across India asking them what three words come to your mind when you think of ‘Learning’.
I have discovered that most of the people come up with the following three words:
1. School
2. Teacher
3. Memorization
In fact this is what have been induced by the education system in our mind. Yet to simplify the understanding of ‘Learning’ I would say it is a process – a process that has potential to lead us to inte
al and exte
al growth.
Human learning is not confined in the boundaries of education system or in the four walls of school it has a vast landscape which is unlimited.
Let us examine the depth of learning. When we say “I have learned cycling, cooking, painting, writing, reading etc." What does it mean? Specifically it indicates that we have acquired a particular skill which is resulting into either tangible or intangible outcome. For example cycling when a child learns how to ride a bicycle he/she feels great confidence and become happy now this is intangible outcome and if a child learns how to cook then he/she will prepare delicious food which is a tangible outcome.
So does it mean that learning is acquiring skills? Let me repeat that learning is a process that has potential to lead for inte
al and exte
al growth if we perceive learning likewise then learning cannot be limited to acquiring skills or knowledge. It takes us beyond the idea of acquiring anything. It takes us to the realms of knowing the unknown.
When you learn you know
When you know you have clarity
When you have clarity you have better performance
When you have better performance
You grow both inte
ally and exte
ally…
I hope this might have thrown enough light on what is learning now it is the time to move forward and understand what this P7 Learning System is.
I designed this process in 2007 while I was teaching MBA students. Now in most of my classes I have discovered that students get easily distracted if their interest is not in a particular subject or they are forced to sit and listen or the teaching method is monotonous.
If schools, colleges or any educative courses introduce P7 Learning System before they actually start teaching any subject they will find a quantum jump in the attention of students.
P7 Learning System is still in the process of evolution as learning is a lifelong process. I am hoping that more mediation will bring unexplored dimensions very soon till that time you can enjoy this system.
P7 Learning System
P1 = Presence
If you want to learn and retain things for lifelong then P1 is essential. Be present wherever you are with your body, mind, heart and soul. Most of the time people are present physically and mentally they are spaced out. So P1 that is Presence is the most important aspect for anything that you want to learn in life. Your holistic presence will lead you to better and faster learning.
P2 = Progressive Mind
I have observed whenever I introduced P1 in my class or sessions everyone’s spinal cord has become erect. Yet when I introduce P2 something more happens to people. Progressive mind is an open mind which has a non-judgmental characteristic. An open mind receives and grasps faster than a biased or a critical mind or closed mind. So whenever you want to learn something new keep the doors of your mind open as the information may sound bit uneasy for the first time but the open mind has the capacity to digest new information positively.
P3 = Proactive
In my visit to several thousands of education institutes across India I have discovered that in classroom P3 has been suppressed just due to the reason of finishing the curriculum. If you are proactive while you are learning something new then your dendrites gets more activated which result into healthy learning. While you are learning something new if you are proactive that is participative your mind will take this learning as a powerful experience and will burn it in your memory for life long.
P4 = Practice
Let’s not get confused between these two words Practice and Practise as the former is used as noun and the latter is used as verb yet they both lead to the same point. Let me remind you something if you have learned bicycle and if you stop practicing it for several years still you will not forget how to ride the bicycle. Now why this happens because while learning bicycle at the initial stage you have practiced it for a particular length of time that is atleast for a month non-stop you were riding it daily. This creates patterning in the brain and it stays for life long. So whenever you are learning anything new practice is atleast for 30 days and you will see great improvement.
P5 = Persist
The test of P4 comes when you fail to learn something new. You try for 10 times and yet you fail to learn so the mind has the tendency to give up. That is the reason P5 is essential. Even though you fail for 10000 times you have to persist and I guarantee you that you will succeed in learning. Persistence has great power and this power when it is mixed with learning it gives optimum outcome.
P6 = Put it on paper
If you have watched Secret movie then you must be aware that our mind encounters around 60000 thoughts in one day. Now out of these 60000 thoughts there are thoughts with creative ideas. But as we have no habit of putting our thoughts on paper these thoughts come and disappear. So if you want an effective learning then whenever you are learning something new use pen and paper and jot down the thoughts, ideas, questions and whatever comes to your mind on paper and your learning will reach to the next level which enhances your concentration ability.
P7 = Pass it on
Without P7 all learning is waste and useless. If you have learned something and if you are not sharing your learning with other or if you are not helping others to learn then your learning is in vein. Whatever you learn on everyday basis even small thing just pass it on – teach it to others.
Application of P7 Learning System will help you to enhance your learning. Before you judge or criticize this system try it for 30 days without any bias in mind and see the result.
Let me end this article with my new understanding that in future those people will be considered as illiterate and uneducated who are not ready to learn, unlea
and relearn. Learn new ways of living, unlea
egos, biases, negative though influences and relea
the innate wisdom existing in the consciousness of each being.
