If you have a garden you cannot live without; moving sounds like a different ball game altogether. Your main concerns would most likely be uprooting, packing and then moving the plants. You must have a plan in place because transplanting hastily is bound to cause damage to the plants beyond repair. It is unsettling when you think of packaging your plants but you can always make it easier for you and your saplings.

Start with a look into the restrictions and regulations. Certain international and state laws do not allow transportation of certain types of plants. Proper labeling with specifications such as name and address of the shipper and receiver, botanical name and so on can streamline the whole process. You might want to seek help from the NGOs and other advisory councils who specialize in plant inspection and transportation. When you have decided on the plants to relocate with you; it is time to devise a plan for transplantation. A plastic pot usually does the trick. You need to however, ensure that you dig out the plants from their natural habitats at least three weeks in advance before the move; the plants require at least that much of the grace period to survive. Smaller plants can usually be managed much easier by way of repotting them. When it comes to packing the shrubs, you will need to dig out the roots with decent quantity of soil surrounding them. Add moderate amount of water so as not to facilitate shifting of the soil by making it crumbly or even soak and damage the packaging; and then wrap the base of the plant with a plastic bag which you would secure around the stem. Now, protect the shrubs from the top by enclosing them with newspaper or plastic; poke holes to allow for breathing; arrange the plants in a box, insulated by using shredded paper, bubble wrap or packing peanuts.

It is now time for transporting the plants the right way; and it is as important. If you happen to be carrying the plants yourself, try to maintain a stable temperature all through while you avoid a bumpy ride. During the winters, proper insulation is the key while shades and airy spaces are to be sought during the summers. It helps to know that many packers and movers do not transport plants. On the other hand, many movers and packers who do not cover the liability of damage or loss.

Once you have arrived at your new home, remove the enclosures around the plants immediately and water them. If you are to replant some of the plants, wait for a week before you do so.
