Pacquiao's Questioned Win, UFC's Velasquez Quick Lost
Pacquiao retains title, Mayweather next?
If you were watching the match between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, you probably missed a better fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, who retained the WBO World Welterweight title. It was the third time these two faced each other, with a previous victory for the Filipino and a draw, but in despite of Pacquiao been now 2-0-1, their 3 fights have been so close, that Manny’s record can easily be at 0-3 against the Mexican.
This meant the fourth time that the Filipino defended his welterweight belt, but he wasn’t convincing in the twelve rounds the fight lasted, and that also goes for Marquez, as neither of the fighters could visibly hurt their opponent. This lack of superiority is the main fact why many writers were disputing if Pacquiao actually won, with many of them scoring the fight as a win for Marquez or as a draw.
There is still no confirmation of a new bout between Marquez and Pacquiao, as the latest is not too sure about wanting to fight the Mexican for a fourth time and you can add to this the rumors about Marquez’s retirement. When it comes to fans, there is a more interesting fight that has been in the talks for quite a while: Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather, two champions that are being called to jump into the ring in order to see who the better of the two is. Mayweather has been confirmed to be fighting on May 5, 2012, but his rival hasn’t been announced, which indicates that organizers of the event were expecting to see who was the winner between the Filipino and Marquez, and now that there is a winner, it is just a matter of time for this fight to become official.
UFC: Dos Santos is the new champ
As Dana White mentioned, the UFC event from Saturday at Fox was a true success when it comes to putting on a live promotion, but when it comes to fans, it is certain that they were disappointed when Dos Santos threw Velasquez to the canvas after only 64 seconds in the first round. Cain, the previously unbeaten champion, knew that his performance was not what everybody was expecting from him, and mentioned that “I just want to say sorry to all my fans, family and friends. I disappointed you. I’m much more than this. I will be back, and I will get that belt back.”
Junior Dos Santos is the new heavyweight champion, and now that the UFC has acquired a 7-year contract with Fox, it is likely that he will be again featured in the next Ultimate Fighting Championship TV event for the famous broadcasting company, and that can come soon, as Dos Santos (who is the 3rd Brazilian champion along Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo) is expected to fight the winner of the bout between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, which will be taking place on December 30 (this fight will be featured only on pay per view).
