There is a lot that goes into wall painting. First you have to decide what colour you would like to have on your walls. Choosing paint colours can be a tricky task, because this doesn’t only involve selecting the colours. It also makes a difference because the paint can look very different on the wall, depending on the wall painting finishing technique you choose. Let’s make this all a lot clearer by explaining a few different types of painting ideas based on wall finishing.

Matte

The matte wall finish has a subtle effect. This finish is useful if you want to hide small crevices and cracks in the wall. However, using wall paints to paint your room in a matte finish is not advisable if you are scared of marks and stains on your wall. You can remove the paint from the wall in the process of trying to clean marks and stains on a matte finish wall. In addition, as this type of finish does not reflect light, it is good to have on your wall if you want to create a subdued look.

Satin

This finish has a calming and velvety look. Painting your walls with a satin finish will give you the in between effect of a matte and a glossy finish. This type of finish reflects a little bit of light and is suitable when you want to paint doors, door and window frames and ceilings. You can use paints for this type of finish in areas that might have more activity like bathrooms and kitchens. This is because there are more chances of stains on wall and with a satin finish you can clean, and even lightly scrub, stains and marks off the walls.

Semi-Glossy and Glossy

When you are deciding how to paint a room, a semi-glossy or glossy finish should be considered if you want to emphasize certain wall areas or furniture in your home. A semi-glossy finish adds a subtle shine, without too much emphasis. However, if you want a brighter look or you want to emphasize your furniture more then you should, choose a glossy finish. The advantage is that walls which have both these types of finishes are easy to clean and scrub, and the paints does not come out too easily.
