It is almost a year since I last visited the Pangani and my imminent visit long ago. My first visit was in 2001. I was an American lady chaperoning of Dar es Salaam all the way to the Northern Serengeti Safari. Much has been experienced and it was a real adventure. But it all started palm fringed tropical Pangani in Tanzania's coast. It is hot and humid. Many sisal cactus and many coconut trees. This is a sleepy bay is off the beaten track and life is slow. There is a small number of present along the bay is a wonderful and luxurious - all this on offer without braking the bank. Pangani is not the main tourist route and is therefore a luxury here does not necessarily mean expensive. We spent three days here and fell in love with the American lady with a small luxury tented camp we visited. The beaches are white, clean, and neglect. There is not much other than relax and be papered. My guest book visitor wrote that she thought she had died and gone to heaven. " We also took a small motorboat and sped across the choppy Pangani Bay, and then slowed down and had a leisurely mini-cruise to the mighty Pangani river, lazy late afternoon sun. Riverbanks strewn with thousands of coconut tress and prolific bird life - if you are lucky, you are also able to detect one or two small animals along the river. On the way back we stooped mouth of the river and spent a pleasant hour exploring the ancient Arab city of Pangani. Returning to the house before dark shower, sundowners and excellent food. Pangani is something a little different to start or even end your safari. If you want to relax in paradise and quiet then Pangani is for you. If you do not have time to spend living in the countryside, or maybe you are afraid of the constitution is not quite up to eat fried chicken legs and boiled grass, or you simply do not have time, I would suggest you go short expeditionary living around the village or town. The local person with you, hotel or lodge or tour operator to someone. Explain you want to see rural life, not tourist attractions. This may not be as easy as it looks. Your manager is unable to understand first that you want to see all the unattractive poverty in Tanzania. Mbeya, or walking around the village of Arusha or Kilimanjaro Tengeru suburb or more can be done in half a day, and you can meet real people in Tanzania and see how people live. This is as long as you stay away from "real" traditional blacksmith's rule of thumb, it may be a good idea to stay away from the traditional foster anything. If you start your safari, Pangani and then move towards the Serengeti, it is a good break for two days and then the Usambara Mountains day trip and overnight trip on the slopes of Kilimanjaro.
