Becoming a parent is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and not a lot of people actually get to enjoy the sensations and excitements related to it. For those who do, it is not just a fun ride, but also an extremely bumpy, and at times, quite a dangerous one. Being a parent is not jus t about being a father or a mother, it is a lot more. Parenthood is more about being a good parent and an effective parent. There is no right or wrong way of doing things, however, there are things you could do to become a better parent and make your child a better and a more all-rounded human being. Wouldn’t you want to hear people talk about your child in a positive manner? Of course you would! Everybody likes to hear good things about their child, and this does not come automatically. The parenting styles that you adopt with your child will make a lot of difference. Gone are the days when it was kept simple with adages like “spare the rod and spoilt the child”. Bringing up a child and the concepts associated with it are much different today, because the world we live in has changed drastically. It might surprise a lot of people but relationship advice is required not just for elders, but also for parents and their children. After all, this too is a relationship, and perhaps one of the most important ones that you will have in your life. When you decide to have a child, you are taking on a big decision and an equally big responsibility. You need to be sure and confident that you are willing to take on the tasks that come with taking care of a child and making him or her, a responsible and humane person. Just because your child is obedient does not mean that you are a good parent. Anyone who is thinking on those lines, really needs someone who can mentor them and offer them proper relationship advice. Such parents need to be told that they have covered only one aspect of being a good parent. The very first thing you need to do it accept that neither you, nor your child are embodiments of perfection. There is a lot that both of you need to learn – not just from each other, but also the world around. As a parent, the best relationship advice that you could receive from anyone, would be to listen to your children and observe them. Just because they are kids does not mean that they don’t have feelings or don’t see what is happening around them. Children are like sponges – they absorb every little thing and are more often than not, replicas of what their parents are. So, it is important that you ensure that whatever you are doing in front of your kids, is what you want them to emulate. Someone who wishes to give you healthy relationship advice would tell you to take the time out to just be with your children. Talk to them, find out what is happening in their lives and make sure that they are not falling into bad habits or company. It is a common habit to see many parents make comparisons with other children the same age. This is perhaps the single biggest mistake that can be made. Each child is individual and unique and it is wrong to think that all children will behave or react in a similar manner. However, the best and the most important relationship advice that anyone could give to a parent would be to be just honest with their children. Let them know what your expectations are from them, and make them feel secure is not just their successes but also their failures. Children always need to know that they are loved and no matter what, there will always be someone who will hold their hand, when they stumble. As a good parent, you need to instil that confidence in your kids and let them know that they can come and talk to you about anything and everything, without having the fear of being judged.
