Let’s face it, when you’re young wearing patches or glasses isn’t fun. They can limit you from playing certain sports and there is absolutely no way to hide them from other people seeing them since they are right there on your face. Because of this, some kids are self-conscious about wearing them. If they saw it as a fun thing, though, they would be more confident about sporting an eye patch or set of glasses. If getting your child to wear such things over their eyes is always a hassle, then, hopefully, these four tips can help you out.

Customize to Your Child’s Style

For years, orthodontists have given their patients choices about the colors of their braces and accessories. It might be helpful to look at getting glasses in the same light. There are literally hundreds of different styles for your child to choose from. Just make sure to set aside a good amount of time when you go to the Eye Society or wherever you go to pick them out. Have your child wear his or her favorite outfit, pick several different types of glasses to match it and then let them show off. You can have them pretend to walk down a runway or take pictures of them so that they can see. Oh, and you have to make sure that they spend a good amount of time looking at themselves in the mirror so that they can see just how awesome they look!

Be Artistic About it

When it comes to making eye patches fun, you have to be creative about it. Do you have a person in your family who loves to draw? Maybe it is the very same person who is getting the patch. Anyways, have whoever it is draw on multiple blank patches for your child to wear. They could draw stars, eyes, or fun designs.

Look to the Idols

Does your child have a favorite actor or actress? Do they wear glasses (either in real life or in the roles that they play)? If so, take advantage of that! Children typically want to be just like their role models. For example, if your child loves Superman, then you’re in luck! Clark Kent, the character behind the Superman costume, wears glasses. It would be a good idea to let your child watch this movie the day that they get their glasses so that they can visualize that they are becoming a superhero. Not only that, but they just might be surprised that they can actually see the movie a bit better too!

Make a Patch Chart

You’ve heard of sticker charts, right? Well, you can do the same thing with eye patches. Have your child place the patches on a chart every time that they take it off. Although they may enjoy collecting them, it would be even more fun if they knew that there was a prize of some sort involved. Perhaps they could get taken to the dollar movies or something after they have collected ten patches. Whatever you do, just make sure to always be looking to make it fun for your child. You can also take a look at your child’s hobbies and interests to see if there is any way for you to incorporate their eye care in a creative way.
