Can every child learn fast?
Yes, all normal children can learn fast and become brilliant persons. Because every normal child is in possession of a perfect brain.
Your child is in possession of a perfect brain if it has learned to walk, talk and play as all normal children do. Because the skills of walking, talking and playing are so complex that only children with perfect brain can learn them.
The most important secret behind fast learning
Recall how your child learned to walk, talk and play.
His efforts to walk and talk were praised, applauded, kissed, stroked, encouraged and the child was shown, demonstrated vividly how to do these activities better. When the child faltered and fell, when the child uttered meaningless words, you did not criticize. Instead, you enjoyed those mistakes and laughed with your child. You too might have acted like your child!
In short, learning was made a playful activity—with lot of love!
This is the biggest secret that can accelerate learning of your children and make them brilliant persons. Just use your creative thinking and make them love what they have to learn.
If you provide loving atmosphere while your child is trying to learn to read, write or while learning any topic, your child will be able to master those skills faster and better.
However, except in rare cases, this doesn’t happen. Both parents and teachers become impatient and start to criticize and punish when children make mistakes. This creates confusion, fear, hate, distaste in children towards learning, school, and even parents or teachers.
Use PCP technique to bring out the genius in your child.
Children learn everything by trial and error. By doing lot of mistakes. Learning can be accelerated by ignoring mistakes and praising correct actions.
But some mistakes need to be criticized and corrected. This can be done better by using a sandwich of PCP—praise-criticism-praise, instead of usual punishment or criticism.
Criticism brings better result if it is used after praising some good qualities. That means, you have to find something good in every mistake. Let me give an example of using PCP.
Your child has written the spelling of the word ENGLISH as ENGLESH.
Now instead of yelling at your child you can say, “Good, you have scored 9 out of 10, as you have written six letters out of seven correctly! (Praise.)
But if you had written ‘I’ instead of ‘E’ you could have scored 10 out of 10. Practice writing correct spelling 2-3 times, then you can always write this word correctly in future.” (Criticism.)
Now when your children write the word 2-3 times correctly, then praise again. “That’s good. Now you have learnt the correct spelling.”
However, what if in future your child writes the same word incorrectly? Use the same technique.
Say, “You again scored only 9!” And ask your child gently to write that word more number of times, preferably, this time in some bright colours.
You can help your children to do still better, if you offer simple rewards at every small improvement. Aiming for small improvements is better than imposing a big improvement which may turn into a big failure.
You can solve other problems of your son or daughter by using similar strategy. For example, some children find mathematics difficult. Some find English difficult. Reason for difficulty in both the subjects is nearly the same. Lack of understanding the basic steps and principles and less practice of these.
Slow learning and poor performance are just bad habits which can be undone. And your son or daughter is not responsible for acquiring these bad habits. Parent, teachers and the environment is fully responsible for this unwanted result.
Because the child was not directed properly in the beginning. And no good models were set before him or her for better learning.
Think about this great quote…
"A child's education should begin at least one nhundred years before he is born." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
That is, parents need to form good habits and demonstrate before their children. Children don’t do as they are told, they do what parents do. So start with using PCP technique to motivate children to quickly master good habits, learn useful skills and score better grades.
Start using PCP technique today and make this a habit. Praise more and criticize less or still better, ignore mistakes and praise whatever little good in every situation. Within a short time you will see big improvement in your children’s progress.
As a bonus, you will have loving relation with your children.
