It really is a widespread mistake. So many investors often use investing and trading interchangeably, but they're not the same thing. The objectives of engaging in penny stock trading are quite different than those of penny stock investing. The differences can be stated rather simply: Penny Stock Trading A stock trader is an individual who buys and sells stock for a relatively short time frame--it could be five seconds or five days. The intent of the stock trader isn't to plant cash into some stock, water it and pray it'll one day grow tenfold. The purpose is to generate some money and get out--to play the swings. A penny stock trader is gambling on the swings--the ups and downs in the price of a stock. A penny stock with high unpredictability is perfect. It does not make any difference if a stock opened at $1 on Monday and ended at $1 on Friday so long as it skipped around in the meantime. Penny Stock Investing Unlike the trader, the penny stock investor will buy a stock and keep hold of it for a longer time period--possibly a few months or years even, hoping to realize an increase in value over time. The objective of the stock investor is to purchase a stock and watch it increase to something higher. As an example, if the purchased penny stock was $1 per share today and $1.50 per share in five months, the investor is pleased. The investor holds the stock the whole time and thus all that matters is the price tag and the eventual selling price and not what is going on between the two. Generally speaking, those who purchase penny stocks are likely traders--acquiring stock at $1 today and liquidating for $1.15 tomorrow and re-purchasing at $1 the next day. Regardless of whether you're a penny stock trader or investor, penny stocks represent a tremendous opportunity for profit.
