Perioral Dermatitis is a condition that affects the skin of the face. Women are generally more affected by POD than men or children, though it does affect everyone. Even though Dermatologists call this condition “normal”, the person that is dealing with it feels anything but normal. When I was “afflicted” with POD, there were many days of tears, frustration, and despair! Days of looking in the mirror and feeling scared that actually this might never go away.
I am normally an optimistic and faith-filled person, so for Perioral Dermatitis to get the better of me was telling. Since being healed, I have been committed to getting the word out about what worked for me because I am convinced that you too can be cured of POD!
It’s beyond the scope of this article to include my full “prescription” for healing, so I will touch on the highlights to get you started on the path of healing.
I believe there are two parts to the healing process:
1. Your Thinking and Your Emotions
2. Your Body and Your Skin
Your Thinking and Your Emotions
I believe it’s critical to your healing to stand apart from the Perioral Dermatitis and to laugh in the midst. You are not this condition. You are a beautiful, handsome, amazing individual! Your skin is not your identity. And this will pass. Believe that. No matter how it feels, no matter what you see, this is something that can be healed. This is not a terminal illness and YOU WILL BE CURED if you want to be.
Choose to shift your attitude and how you think about your skin. This might sound silly but be kind to your skin. Accept your skin, nurture it. Choose compassion instead of criticism. Your body is talking to you, will you listen?
Your Body and Your Skin
I am going to touch briefly on some products and remedies that were significant in my healing. I do believe what you choose to eat and drink is vital to having healthy skin. Eating a low sugar, organic diet will greatly serve you in your healing.
1. Go SLS-FREE!
Eliminate shampoos and soaps that contai
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Can be a major culprit in Perioral Dermatitis. You can find these products for sure at a health food store and perhaps at your local chain grocery store.
2. Take AKN Skin Care Supplement, by Nature’s Way
Great combination of herbs that cleanse and detoxify your system.
3. Reduce Your Fluoride Intaker
Tom’s of Maine Toothpaste is a great product, look for Fluoride-free.
Drink Spring water or well-filtered water.
4. Apply a Combo of Lavender-Tea Tree-Grapeseed Oilr
Mix 10-15 drops each of Lavender and Tea Tree oil with 2 Tablespoons of Grapeseed Oil and apply 1-2 times a day to your skin.
5. Wash with Neem Soapr
Neem is an oil from India that is wonderful for the skin and has great healing properties. You can find Neem soap at your local health food store.
If you have a diagnosis (which I think is a wonderful idea by the way, so you can be sure what you are dealing with) your doctor might recommend an antibiotic and an antibacterial/antibiotic gel. You need to decide if this is for you. Some people have great results with an antibiotic and others want to take the path without.
Either way, think long-term about your health, your skin and being kind to yourself. I can guarantee you that your thinking and emotions contribute to your health. Let this journey with Perioral Dermatitis be an opportunity for you to look within and commit to healthy thinking, healthy emotions, and healthy living. Here is to your Abundant Health!
