If we took 100 successful people from all walks of life and put them in one room, we would notice that they all have similar qualities and habits in common. All these people have derived certain characteristics from their personal development that has enabled them to become successful in their lives. After working with thousands of leaders over the past decade, I have boiled down their success to these 7 habits:
Personal Development Habit #1: Commitment
Successful Champions commit to live fulfilling lives. They know that being fulfilled means to live a full life and a full life is doing everything you always wanted to do so that you won’t regret tomorrow. Said a different way, they are always in action because they want to avoid future regrets at all costs. Living a full life means that you live in the present and not the past. It means that you enjoy the present regardless of your circumstances and you are constantly creating a compelling future to live in. Personal development begins now. Are you living fully or dead at the steering wheel? Come on champ wake up and enjoy the one life you have!
Personal Development Habit #2: W.I.T Formula
Successful Champions give it their all and master the W.I.T. formula. W.I.T. stands for WHATEVER IT TAKES! Personal development is in your hands. Take advantage of what you can do for yourself. When you define your goal/dream, you have the ability to reach it. All you need to do is focus on your personal development by following the W.I.T. formula.
• For example, if you’re behind on reaching your monthly sales quota, just do WHATEVER IT TAKES to reach it before the month is over.
• If you want to lose 10 pounds but just don’t have the energy or time just do WHATEVER IT TAKES, then trust me you will find the time; even if it’s real late in the night or real early in the morning.
• If you have a lot of financial debt and it just seems impossible to pay it all off, just do WHATEVER IT TAKES and trust me you’ll find a way.
• WHATEVER IT TAKES means just that WHATEVER IT TAKES. Mediocre people live in a world of reasons and excuses while top performers live in the WHATEVER IT TAKES world.
Take on this success formula starting right now in an area of your life where you are not happy with and let’s see what opens up. Examining your life is the first step to taking control of your own happiness. Gaining a sense of awareness leads you toward personal development.
Personal Development Habit #3: Mentors
Successful Champions have a mentor then become a mentor. They know that to become a master at their game they will need a master to teach them what they need to know. If you look closely, every leader who achieved champion status had a mentor. From George Washington to Winston Churchill. A real champ would not dare go at it alone because the learning curve is way too long and risky. Once these champions achieved mastery then they went ahead and passed the torch. Do you have a mentor? If the answer is no, then what are you waiting for dude! Get one this week. Life is too short.
Being able to develop as an individual takes time, commitment, and integrity. Pursuing the best in you means you are ready for personal development. You are ready to not only discover what potential you hold, but also what you can also offer to others. Personal development begins with your willingness to learn, continues with your experience to teach, and watching another’s personal development flourish.
Personal Development Habit #4: Eliminate the Negative Energy
Successful Champions eliminate the negative energy in their life. They all know that the negative people in their life will hold them back from moving forward so as hard as it may sound, they stop being around the rotten apples. It sure is not something easy to do but it sure brings peace into your life. Trust me, DRAMA FREE is the way to go. What do you need to do today to eliminate the negative energy in your life? This is a key factor of personal development. By letting go of the negative energy, you are creating a positive environment to grow and personally develop into who and what you want to be.
Personal Development Habit #5: Inspiration
Successful Champions seek inspiration to give inspiration. The first thing to realize is that you cannot give what you don’t have. If you don’t have love then how can you give love? If you’re not inspired then how can you give inspiration? One thing all successful champions do is they get connected to their power source. Whether it is through their spirituality, a certain education or a personal growth organization. By being connected to a power source that inspires you, you are now in a position to give away power and inspiration. The funny thing is that the more you give it away, the more it comes back.
More often than not, it is easy to forget that we all need to work on our personal development. The inspiration you receive from your power source is overwhelming. Are you connected to a power source? When you are, the gifts you receive will play a huge part in your personal development toward greater success.
Personal Development Habit #6: Creating, Not Complaining
Successful Champions are Creators not Complainers. Are you a person who likes to be negative, cry and complain all the time? Well, I have a rude awakening for you. Having that attitude will not give you a ticket into an extraordinary life. It’s time to stop being a Drama Queen or Drama King. Life is for not for complaining, blaming and fighting. Life is for living, laughing, enjoying and creating. Successful champions create their destiny instead of just settling for what life gives them. The crazy part is that when you are not creating, you are most likely complaining. Successful Champions know that personal development starts with laughter, not complaining.
This is all part of your personal development. Choose whether you want to create or complain about your decision. Do you want to personally develop as an individual? If yes, then act upon your decision. There’s no better time than the present!
Personal Development Habit #7: Play Big!
Successful Champions do not need permission to play BIG. They are constantly breaking their own limits just to see what possible on the other side. To them a NO just means they’re closer to a YES! They seek advice, make big plans then they enroll everyone in their vision. They are using all the 7 personal development habits to get what they want. They own the fact that they are the one and nobody is coming to their rescue. They are not spectators; they are the one the spectators are watching. Do you need permission to play BIG! If you do then I am giving it to you right now. PLAY BIG TODAY, RIGHT NOW!
