Or maybe it’s just the words we use…

It's become fairly obvious to me recently from people I speak with that not everyone connects with, relates to or gains value from the traditional personal development language or paradigm.

Or words like paradigm (for that matter). Or NLP, EFT, Tapping, hypnotherapy, and all the other buzz words associated with the self help industry.
Gurus abound, experts prevail and it’s only the people who understand that seem to be getting it at the moment.

Speak to Joe or Jo-Ann blogs and they’ll look at you blankly and yet – and yet – don’t some of them have the same issues yet wouldn’t talk to a personal development expert in a month of Sundays.

The proof that I’m right is that people are saying that ‘someone they know’ needs to hear these (types of) messages but they seem to have an aversion to anything that smells like 'personal development’ or anyone who is a ‘motivational speaker'. To be honest, I don't blame them. Some motivational speakers are a little yuch!

So, here it is: my no frills, twelve-step, personal development philosophy for people who hate self-help stuff and cheesy motivational types. In order to avoid boredom, confusion and distraction, I've kept it simple and succinct.

Step 1: Let go of your ill-conceived beliefs

It's time to lose those self-limiting, disempowering beliefs. They've run your life for long enough. You're good enough, talented enough and, yes, you deserve happiness.

Step 2: Don't wait for things to 'work out'

Idiots wait for things to work out. Rather than hoping things will happen, make them happen.

Step 3. Lose the bad attitude

Attitude is a choice. Better attitude equals better decisions, behaviours and outcomes.

Step 4: Don't eat rubbish

Being unhealthy on a physical level means you won't function optimally on any level: mentally, emotionally, professionally or socially. Eat rubbish and you'll look, feel and function like rubbish

Step 5: Actually care about others

Being a self centered idiot isn’t a recipe for success.

Step 6: Don't make life harder than it needs to be

Life's challenging enough without you complicating the simple. There’s a great expression that I used to teach to sales teams, it’s the K. I.S.S. ; keep it simple stupid – why over complicate?

Step 7: Do things early in the day

Being productive early puts you in a better place (mentally, emotionally and creatively) for the rest of the day.
Step 8: Bad things happen and life's not fair - deal with it

More often than not success or failure will be determined by the way you react to the situations, circumstances and events (good and bad, foreseen or not) of your world. Better reactions equal better results.

Step 9: Don't focus on (or obsess about) things you can't change

Wasting your time, talent and emotional energy on things that are beyond your control is a recipe for frustration, misery and stagnation. Invest your energy in the things you can control.

Step 10: Don't avoid things you fear

Putting your head in the sand just shows the world your bottom. And none of us want that. Lasting change begins with awareness and acknowledgement. Step up and do what's necessary.

Step 11: Don't over-think things

Analysis paralysis is a painful, pointless and unnecessary condition. To think is good. To obsess is bad. Stop obsessing.

Step 12 : Don't talk big

Big-talkers are notorious under do-ers, under-achievers and under-performers. They're also pains in the bottom. Don’t be one of them.

You might find this offensive – although for the life of me I can’t think why.
I hope it helps de-mystify and is used in the spirit in which it is given – practical advice.

I believe that what we put out there we get back and the only way to improve our lives is by ‘reprogramming’ our mindset.
The 3 greatest internal blocks people have are fear, self doubt and procrastination. When we release those we can be, do, have whatever it is we truly desire.
Like a computer when the 'hardware' isn't congruent with the 'software' no advancement can be made when we are out of sync; and it's the same with our brains. If we say one thing – and believe in our subconscious something totally, different we’ll never make the changes we think we want. Our thoughts and beliefs are what makes us tick so whatever the issue whether it’s relationships, work/career, money, self esteem, confidence; I help people look at what is holding them back and help them release those ties enabling them to go forward with whatever it is they desire. . But it can be a very painful process, the letting go, and people have to be ready and willing to make the changes. Affirmations are wonderful tools but useless without that one major ingredient – Action!
So Action, consistency and commitment - make it happen -
Persistence + Confidence = Success
My greatest joy is seeing the transformation when someone releases their blocks and moves forward.
