Petroleum and its uses

Most of us have the general feeling that Petroleum has been used mainly as a fuel for running the automobiles and also finds its use mainly for the transportation facilities world wide. But this is not the case, since Petroleum has got several byproducts that have been put to use in a multitude of industrial as well household purposes.

The byproducts that can be derived from the petroleum is also very much dependant on the quality of the petroleum that has been extracted from the oil wells. The marked difference in the quality can thus play a very important role in the derivation of the byproducts from them. It would be a surprise to many in knowing the fact that, the day to day plastic that has been used for many products like the manufacture of toys, and many other accessories in our day today life is indeed a byproduct of petroleum.

The paraffin wax is yet another byproduct of petroleum and it has been used for making candles and many other products. The synthetic rubber which is the primary constituent that is used for the manufacturing of the tyres in the tyre industries worldwide is another product that has been derived by the chemical processes of the petroleum. The very famous petroleum jelly that is being used for the manufacturing of Vaseline has been derived as a byproduct of petroleum.

Apart from this the natural gas that is being extracted out from the petroleum wells during the drilling process, is another important by product which has been used in industries. Natural gas has been used as Liquefied Petroleum Gas or which is most popularly called as LPG for the cooking purposes in the households and the hotel industries. Technology has grown so much that this natural gas that comes out of the petroleum wells, is being sent through pipes to directly supply the gas for the industries and the households worldwide.

Another byproduct that has been derived from petroleum called as the kerosene, finds extensive use worldwide as the fuel that is used for the burning and cooking purposes in households. Gasoline that has been derived from petroleum is yet another very important byproduct, that is being used as the engine fuel for the aircrafts around the world. Apart from this the petroleum and the natural gas has been used for heating purposes and also for the generation of the electricity worldwide.

This multitude of the uses of the petroleum and its by products, have indeed become a real boon to the human civilization and from time immemorial these products have always helped mankind in achieving and also satisfying their daily needs that no other commodity in this world has ever been able to offer. This is the very reason that the petroleum has gained a very elite status among almost all the countries of the world and has gained the recognition as the most important fossil fuel among the world wide community.
