Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. It is also known as "Pink city" and pink with beautifully constructed palaces, havelis and forts. It is just 300 kilometers faraway from Delhi, and 200 kilometers from Agra. In old Age, Jaipur was covered by seven gates. Those are chandpol, Sanganeri and Ajmeri.Tall, rugged men with handle-bar whiskers sport link colored turbans were built in 1727 A.D. by Sawai Jai Singh-II. Jaipur was the first planned city of its time, was designed by the architect "VIDHYADHAR BHATTACHARYA". He used the principles of town planning, as laid down in the shipla Shasta, an ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. He builds the city palace and the largest stone observatory in the world employing the same principles. A marvel in town planning, Jaipur is harmonious blend of culture, education religion and historical monuments.

Indian cities for the width and regularity of its streets which are laid out into six sectors separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide. The urban quarters are further divided by networks of gridded streets. Five quarters wrap around the east, south, and west sides of a central palace quarter, with a sixth quarter immediately to the east. The Palace quarter encloses a sprawling palace complex, (Hawa Mahal), formal gardens, and a small lake. Nahargarh Fort, which was the residence of the King Sawai Jai Singh II, crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. The observatory, Jantar Mantar, is one of the World Heritage Sites.Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan and India.

Jaipur falls in a rich mineral belt of marble, precious and semi precious stones, which makes it a unique marketplace for both raw and finished products. Jewellery of precious and semi-precious stones is a strong attraction for tourists. Jaipur is also home to gold and silver jewellery made in the “Kundan” and “Meenakari” traditions, which are now world famous.

Jaipur is called the Pink City because at the time, architecture of the town was very advanced and certainly the best in Indian Subcontinent. In 1853, when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur, the whole city was painted pink to welcome him during the regime of Sawai Ram Singh. Today, avenues remain painted in pink; provide a distinctive appearance to the city.Jaipur is called the pink city because most of the old buildings of jaipur is painted in pink.
