Solvang has been a great destination for many years. Many of us that grew up in Southern California remember traveling the two or three hours to spend visiting this quaint little Danish Town. One of my first Solvang experiences was eating an Ableskiver while walking along Copenhagen Ave., marveling at all the buildings and wondering if this what it was like to be in Europe! Years later I visited Denmark and reminisced about my first “Danish” experience. Over the course of the last few years Solvang has managed to keep it’s unique charm while changing in many ways. The surrounding towns of Los Olivos, Ballard, Santa Ynez and Buellton have also grown and become destinations within the ever popular Santa Ynez Valley. Every single one of these areas has great hotels, restaurants and landscapes that make this a premier place to visit. In Solvang, you have many places to stay and choose from. Some of the most recent additions have been the Hotel Corque which is very high end and has a stark metropolitan feel. There is also the Hadsten Inn which boasts both a restaurant and spa. Both of these locations are in the heart of Solvang which is a great benefit allowing you to walk to most in-town establishments. Another gorgeous place to stay in Solvang is the famous Alisal Guest Ranch. This place is like no other in the Valley! Its’ expansive grounds and middle of nowhere feel make it a favorite of many generations. Truly a place everyone should see! In picturesque Ballard you can find the famous Ballard Inn, home to Chef Budi Kazali. This place is a Bed & Breakfast in the truest sense of the word. As you drive up you cannot help but wonder the history behind this building. Once inside you never want to leave. In fact, you don’t need to, as you can eat at the marvelous Ballard Inn Restaurant and wine taste while lounging on the patio. Los Olivos is home to the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn & Spa. Along with being centrally located in Los Olivos, home to many great tasting rooms and restaurants, it is truly a magnificent destination. The accommodations are first class as well the spa and Petros’ restaurant which are conveniently located within the grounds. If you want to try out other restaurants you are steps away from Patrick’s Side Street Cafe as well as historic Mattei’s Tavern and the charming Los Olivos Cafe. Santa Ynez, a true western sleepy town, is home to the fantastic Santa Ynez Inn. This place, with its Victorian feel is truly a gem in the valley. Located right next to the Vineyard House Restaurant, the Inn also has a Spa and is home to many weddings throughout the year. This is one of the best kept secrets in the Santa Ynez Valley!! The Gateway to Valley, as Buellton is known, is home to the Santa Ynez Marriott. This hotel is very well respected in the Valley and is home to many events throughout the year. Their facilities are very accommodating and they also do a very good job of integrating with tour companies in the Valley. The Santa Ynez Valley has over 30 places to stay! Enough choices to fit everyone’s budget!
