With Thanksgiving around the corner, it's time to spread the cheer to others by volunteering at local organizations.

Thanksgiving is the time to think about what we are thankful for. Sometimes, we forget about all the people out there that need our help. That’s why spending a few hours of your day volunteering is the perfect way to spread thankfulness. These are a few ways to volunteer this year.

Deliver Meals to People in Need

For a person who can’t travel or leave their house on Thanksgiving, getting a fresh and delicious Thanksgiving meal delivered to them can touch their hearts in so many ways. You can sign up for programs like Meals on Wheels to help these people out.
Donate Food

Times are hard, and there are many families in need of groceries every day and especially Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving, donate food like canned goods, different types of bread, dry pastas, beverages, and even a turkey to local food banks and homeless shelters.
Participate in a Turkey Trot

If you love to run, then participating in a nearby Turkey Trot will be the perfect volunteer option for you. All proceeds made from a Turkey Trot are donated to many local charities.

Serve Dinner at a Local Soup Kitchen or Homeless Shelter

Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to help out the homeless community in your area. There are multiple ways of helping out at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. They need volunteers to help cook, serve, collect food, greet people, and clean up.
Visit Local Residents in Need

Another great way to volunteer is by visiting local residents in need at nursing homes, verteran associations, hospitals, and homeless shelters. Just a small portion of your time can touch their hearts and leave lasting memories.
Send Care Packages to Troops

We can’t forget about the men and women overseas who are protecting us every day so we can continue living in freedom. As a way of saying thank you to them, you can send a care package to troops. Or you can help a soldier’s family through Homefront America by giving them groceries and a turkey certificate for Thanksgiving.
Now that you know where your services would be appreciated, go out and volunteer. What you may consider a small gesture can make a huge impression on someone in need.
