Plastic Bags Versus Paper Bags

It is inevitable for businesses today to succeed without going green. ‘Saving the planet’ is more of a fashion these days. I would say it is a healthy fashion and should be promoted. Businesses, whether big or small, publicize their philanthropic nature primarily to win the hearts of their customers. The aggregate number of green customers is rising day by day. People only buy eco-friendly goods from the market. The widespread popularity of brown paper bags is a clear indication of the fact that businesses are integrating environmental friendly policies in their business strategies. Many initiatives are taken by corporations to promote climate change, biodiversity and water related issues. Use of paper bags is a positive move adopted by many large retail stores and super markets. The result of the high demand for paper bag has increased revenues for paper bags producing companies. We all know that when there is a demand there will always be someone willing to supply. Governments can device a policy of implementing strict ban on the use of plastic bags altogether. They can impose a penalty on the use of polythene bags. One major cause of pollution in the developing countries is the extensive use of polythene bags. Environmentalists say that a single plastic bag can take more than 500 hundred years to decay completely. They tend to stay in the environment. They cause a threat to biodiversity. In simple words, they are detrimental to animal life and plant life. The plastic bags can cause suffocation to children if they are not monitored by their adults properly. Moreover, these plastic bags are made up of non-renewable material like petro-chemicals and other non-recyclable source of energy. The only way to get rid of plastic bags is to burn them. But again, burning plastic bags releases toxic fumes to the environment and increases the pollution levels in the air. Paper bags are clearly superior to plastic bags in many different ways. Firstly, they are multi-purpose bags that can be utilize in storing foot products in a grocery store or clothes from a designer outlet. They are easy to carry around as well. Most of them have rope handles and paper twist handles. They can also be replaced for a gym bag. Sometimes referred as a mesh bag, these brown paper bags can also be used as a gift bag. They come in stylish designs and different sizes. Paper bags are made up of bio-degradable material and are a great contributor to saving our planet and the species living in the planet. If everybody starts using paper bags and abstain from using plastic bags altogether we can most certainly make a difference. But somebody has to take a start.
