Advantages

• Mobility—it is easier to move from one place to another than your regular window air conditioner. The reason it is easier to move is the wheels that are attached to the base or casters that are mounted to the unit. It can be used in the kitchen or living room during the day and moved to the bedroom at night.
• Cost-effective—they are a smaller unit so they cost less than your larger window air conditioners.
• Easy to install—when you get the unit home you can just take it out of the box and it is ready to use without any fixing materials or screws. • Convenient for rentals—when you move to another place it is easy to transport and set up in your new living space even though the units are quite heavy.

Disadvantages

• Difficult water management—generally speaking air conditioners have the ability to take the moisture from the air that is present in an enclosed space while it dehumidifies the room to create a comfortable atmosphere. The thing is that the moister that is pulled from the air will need to be discarded somewhere so the portable air conditioner will need to be placed near a window to let the water flow out of the room using a hose that is connect to the unit. In some portable air conditioners there is a pan inside the unit that will need to be emptied every time it becomes full.
• Noisier than other units—because each component is found in the same single unit they tend to create more noise.
• Placement restrictions—the two aspects that put restrictions on where you place the unit is the plug-in system and water management. You will need to put the unit where it can be plugged in and you need to make sure that the water can get out that has collected.
