Astigmatism is an eye problem that hinders the ability of light to converge on a single focal point on the retina . This condition may result in the patient experiencing distorted images at close-up and distant ranges, because of a curve in the cornea which is oblong in shape instead of spherical. Patients with relatives that have suffered from this condition may be more likely to develop it, although it is sometimes caused by damage to the eye or progressive disease. If it is not dealt with, eyestrain and headaches may be experienced. Astigmatism sufferers may also have farsightedness or nearsightedness as well.

Choosing LASIK

Although patients suffering from this condition may benefit from contact lenses or glasses, impressive and long lasting results can be experienced through the use of a refractive surgery. Through Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, LASIK, Astigmatism sufferers can experience enhanced results that are not achievable through alte
ative corrective methods. The procedure works by making the curve flatter, allowing the patient to see more clearly without any glasses or lenses.

Easy Procedure

Both of your eyes can receive treatment on the same day making this procedure very convenient. At only ten minutes per eye, this procedure is not all time consuming and employs the use of numbing eye drops, so no formal sedation is needed. As a result, the LASIK procedure offers an opportunity to correct your vision in a pain free manner with minimal recovery time. Patients may return to work within a couple days. It is an ideal choice to correct astigmatic conditions.

Permanent Results

Most patients obtain 20/20 vision which they will continue to have throughout the rest of their lives. While certain patients may need further attention in the future, a large number can expect to experience stable results. Adverse symptoms after the surgery are also minimal and are often correctable. It is an FDA approved procedure that can be used on adults 18 and over.

Flexibility

A procedure like this empowers patients to improve their vision without the difficulties of eye glasses and contact lenses. The majority of patients dislike glasses and contact lenses because they are expensive and time consuming. The costs involved in yearly visits to the doctor, cases for glasses, contact solution, glass lenses, frames for glasses, cleaning solution and cloths and replacements mean that LASIK is the better choice.

Enhanced Vision

This type of surgery makes it possible for you to have a complete 180-degree field of vision. This solution offers a more precise solution that has proven to be an economical choice with long lasting effects. Many patients obtain near perfect, perfect and superior vision. Another benefit is that an improvement in vision is immediate. To be able to see the world without having to wear any corrective lenses is priceless.

Increased Activity

A disadvantage of wearing glasses and contact lenses, is that wearers often cannot participate in some activities and sports that are potentially hazardous for the wearer. With LASIK, patients can participate in activities that they could previously not get involved in. Corrective surgery improves your personal and professional life.

Patients suffering from Astigmatism do not need to depend on corrective lenses. Surgery of this typeis thought to be the most sought-after solution to a long-term problem. The numerous benefits of this procedure make it a great alte
