The daily news about the American economy is not rosy and it may be that you are conce ed about your present position, have lost your job due to layoff, or are taking on a new job. If you are facing any type of job transition consider these tips to help you cope with present day stress. I suggest that you grab a pad and pen and really get honest with yourself.nn1. Take an honest look at yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses, skills? How did those influence your transition, both positively and negatively?nn2. Step up your self-care. Major life changes are physically and emotionally taxing. You need self-care now more than ever. Do you eat properly and get plenty of light physical exercise? Exercise is a great stress buster so just taking a gentle stroll around the neighborhood or in your local park will do wonders for your state of mind.nn3. Engage your curiosity. What went wrong, or right? What could you have done better? What worked really well? Again, write these down and determine just exactly where your strengths and interests are.nn4. Focus on what you want, and less on what you don't want. Keep your eye on the prize. By focusing on what you absolutely don't want, you tend to spend less time being positive and upbeat about what you really do want in your life.nn5. Find support. Since your transition affects your family as well, it may be better to seek the outside support of friends or professionals. If you have a strong support system at home, understand your blessings and allow your spouse and family to be part of the solutions.nn6. Work on your thoughts. Calm your fears and reinforce your sense of hope and happiness. Listening to uplifting and motivating speakers, or reading inspirational works can certainly help you during times of emotional dismay.nn7. Reassure (or avoid) those who are threatened by, or jealous of, the change. nn8. Let go of how things were "supposed to be" and accept "how things are." Find appreciation for what is. Take a deep breath, look around you and be very appreciative of all of the great things in your life. By focusing on those and avoiding thinking about the bad, you will physically and emotionally feel better, meaning that your mind will work at a higher level to help you find a way out of your current circumstances.nn9. Keep things in perspective. Or try on a new perspective. Don't get stuck. Remember, the only constant is change.
