Prepping your home for sale
It’s not easy preparing your home for sale. First is the emotional factor associated with it. Selling something you have cherished for a while can get difficult. At the same time prepping it the right way is very important. Here are a few ways in which you can make your home sale ready.
From the emotional perspective, slowly start to disassociate yourself with the home. Take down personal effects. Remove elements that have made your house a home and start covering up any marks and dings that may hold memories for you. In terms of cleaning up, you will have to start by de-cluttering your home. This is not a task that can be done in just one day. Start going room by room. Have two boxes that you can work with – one that you can use to throw unwanted things and the other to start boxing up things that you will not need in the near future. This takes care of two aspects of your prepping your home.
When you decide to have an open house, there are certain ways in which you need to present it. All prospective buyers tend to be a bit nosy, so don’t thing that shoving all your belongings into the cupboard will make your home look neat. You will have to have every cupboard and shelf, dusted, cleaned and all things on it neatly stacked. People want to see how much shelf space is there, what more can be done to the space, how accommodative a kitchen shelf can be etc.
When it comes to preparing your home, you will also have to pay attention to all those minor and any major repairs that need doing. Start with your walls and look at every nook and cranny to check and see if the plastering is in place. You may need to do some small touch ups in some places. Next take a look at your roof and the attic and how these two elements are holding up. Replace broken tiles, fix gutters, clear debris in the drains etc. Plumbing is another important aspect to look into. Make sure you have no leaks that are showing on the walls, or taps that are constantly dribbling.
One important thing that people forget about with all the attention they pay to the inside of their home is the outside. Your exteriors are as important. Stand on your front doorstep and take a look at your home objectively. Next stand at your front gate and make sure that everything is the way you want it to be.
