The often-exciting moments felt when visiting a new destination is often interrupted by travel sickness. Travel sickness, otherwise called motion sickness, is an amalgamation of stressful symptoms, which you usually encounter while travelling on cars, planes, coaches or boats. Travel sickness occurs when there is dissimilarity between what the vestibular system perceives and what the eyes are seeing with the position of the body. For example, if you are travelling by a car then the eyes sends signal to brain that your body is moving but your inner ear senses that you are sitting motionless.

Motion sickness is common both in adults and children, and the condition intensifies more in situations of an unsteady ride or long drive on a rough road. The most common symptoms of travel sickness include:

  • Headaches and nausea
  • Cold sweats
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Faintness

Some tips for alleviating motion sickness symptomsr
The symptoms of motion sickness can be escaped by following some basic tips. Do not smoke or avoid people who smoke while travelling as it generally triggers symptoms of nausea. Mild cases of motion sickness can be avoided by listening to music, avoiding reading and taking only small meals before your journey. There are many people who have reported the benefits had from ginger, believing that it can alleviate the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. The sensation of sickness can also be avoided with the use of acupressure bands. While travelling in a car, it is always better to breathe in fresh air by keeping the window open. Always avoid fixing your eyes on moving objects since it may initiate feeling of uneasiness. In addition to this, avoid having heavy meals before or during your journey.
However, if you still continue to experience motion sickness symptoms than prescription medications will help in managing your condition. Avomine tablets are prescribed to avoid the sensation of nausea and other symptoms of motion sickness. In order to prevent the occurrence of uncomfortable symptoms, you are required to take this medication a few hours before the start of your journey. Promethazine is the active ingredient of this medication and acts as an anti-emetic. The anti-emetic medications are known for successfully blocking some signals from the brain due to which there is no disparity in visual messages received by the brain and what is perceived by vestibular system.

This medication may not be as effective once the symptoms have already started. Avomine should not be taken in combination with alcohol since it this aggravate the feeling of drowsiness. This medication can make you more susceptible to the effects of the sun, and therefore you should try to stay in the shade and remain hydrated during journey. Avomine can cause side effects in some people, just like any other medication. The most common side effects are headaches, drowsiness, constipation, difficulty in sleeping and diarrhoea. If you experience unusual symptoms such as swelling, difficulty in breathing or severe rash then visit a doctor immediately.
