Prescription is basically a recommendation of medicine by the doctor. Whenever you visit a doctor or a physician, he examines you, diagnoses a disease and offers you with medication. This medication in simpler words is called prescription. We can also say that the prescriptions offered by the doctor to cure the patients. These prescriptions are in form of orders that can be followed by patient, caretaker, nurse, pharmacist and therapists. It can be hold as the proof against the physician who has prescribed the medication. With the developments and progresses in the medical sector prescriptions today is not just regarded with clinical assessment, laboratory tests, imaging study like X-ray, sonography, etc. Recommending Prescription Prescriptions are basically written by hand on the papers, mostly notepads. Sometimes these are printed through computer or those online are in the electronic format. Prescription normally include the name, address of the one who has written the prescription, registration number, name of the patient, also the address and other details of the patients are included in prescription with the date. The direction of how the medication is to be followed is also included in the prescription handout. The symbol ‘Rx’ is normally included in the beginning of the prescription which means ‘to take.’ Prescription requires A prescriber basically delegates a particular medication depending on the combination of chemicals in a particular drug. Many drug producing organizations persuade the prescribers to recommend the brand manufactured by them. Prescribers also have instructions regarding the drugs having similar chemical composition and comparatively less price. However while a medicine has been prescribed to the patient he must be instructed with process of taking it. Most of the medicines do carry these instructions however it is always to cross check it with your physician. Validating Prescription According to the law certain details are mandatory for a handout to be called as prescription. Apart from the normal things like date, name of the drug, patients name, address and instruction of intake, one major thing that a prescription must carry is physician’s or prescriber’s signature. For a handout to be called a prescription signature of the physician is vital. No Pharmacy can call the handout as prescription or provide a drug to the patient unless he has some kind of consent from the prescriber or the physician. In case of electronic copy, it must as well contain the name and the contact details of the physician. Merit of a Prescription Most of us are unaware about the appropriate information for the drugs. Though we know about the names of some medicines, we have totally no idea about the effects and reactions of the drugs. The combination of two drugs might be allergic to some while effective to others. It is said that self prescribing a drug is like playing with life. Also even if a death occurs due to a drug prescribed by the doctor, the doctor can be arrested. Thus prescription is highly important while purchasing any kind of medicine, pharmacists demand for it and is considered as one of the safest method to remain healthy.
