A press release is any news worthy statement which is written or recorded or both and distributed to various media professionals such as critique’s, columnists, anchors etc. with the intent of gaining publicity for a product, an event or an upcoming event. The press release gains publicity when it is chosen by a journalist and he basis an article on the press release, or the press release results in an interview which would be issued in various magazines or newspapers or the aired on the television.
A press release can be distributed in two ways; one is where the author distributes the press release himself the other is where the author hires the services of a newswire.
I would be discussing them both but before I discuss which is the best method when it comes to distributing the press release, u need to have a press release, well not just any press release but a well written press release at hand which would enable you to have better chances of having the press release published etc. If you are an amateur when it comes to press releases, writing one can be quite a hassle which is why it is better that one goes through various press release examples which have been published on the net. This is so because a press release example would enable you to understand what are the various criteria’s of a press release which need to be fulfilled, like something which you would be able to understand just by looking at it would be the format in which the press release has to be written , getting the format of the press release wrong happens to be the primary reason as to why press releases tend to be rejected, apart from that there are various other things which you would be able to understand like all press release need to be written in the third person only, they are written in a simple manner etc.
Once you have a well written press release at had comes the part of distribution of a press release, if you intend to distribute the press release on your own you begin by making a media database which would contain the contact information of all the journalists which you think would enable you to tap into your target market. But this entire process of making a media database which would be quite limited is very inefficient and time consuming.
Hence a better option is to use the services of a popular and a reliable newswire which would contain a vast media database, from where u can choose the journalists whom you believe would be able to help spread your marketing message in the right places. Apart from that via a news wire your press release would also be made SEO friendly and would be distributed to various blogs and forums, increasing he reach of your press release and increasing its effects as well.
