Reduce costs and injury with a fire safety course onlinernThere are a number of safety training courses available to labourers in any industry, whether working in transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, or construction. Topics for construction safety courses can include electrical safety, fall protection, WHMIS, crane operating, and more. Not all of these courses are mandatory, however many employers provide them to their employees as a way of being proactive in the health and safety management of their workers. Not only are these employers helping to prevent injuries and fatalities on the worksite, they are also pre-emptively reducing the costs that incur when an accident (due to unknowingly unsafe practices) causes injuries or damage to equipment.rnWhy Provide a Fire Safety Course?rnA safety training course sometimes overlooked, but that is an important and preventative measure is focused on a prevalent hazard in any type of work and on any job site, and that is the hazard of fire. Fires are the cause of hundreds of injuries a year and have cost companies thousands of dollars in damages to products and equipment. Many of these injuries and costs could have been avoided if workers were trained in basic firefighting.rnThere are a number of reasons why firefighting training Canada courses are beneficial to workers, even when their job descriptions do not include working with flames or other heat sources. Fire can be caused by many things including sparks off a live wire or a cigarette butt left burning by a careless passer-by.rnProviding workers with a fire safety course is a great way to mitigate fire hazards. At its basic level, a fire safety course will focus on fire prevention—on ways to avoid having to extinguish a fire in the first place. This can include information about the fire tetrahedron, the different fuel sources for fires, and the reasons that fires ignite. Further to that, a fire safety course will cover the different types of fires as well as the different types of fire extinguishing agents. How to properly use, maintain, and inspect a fire extinguisher is also an integral part of many basic firefighting courses. This valuable information can be applied to any industry.rnAfter training, workers will feel more confident in handling small blazes. This will enable them to take charge of a situation when a fire occurs and to prevent any small-sized fire from getting unnecessarily out of control while waiting for the fire department to arrive.rnEven more important, a fire safety course will instruct learners about when not to attempt to extinguish a fire. Workers will learn when a fire is too large or too powerful for their efforts with an extinguisher, and when attempting to put out a fire would put themselves and/or others at risk.rnProviding Online TrainingrnThere are a number of options for providing workers with basic fire safety training. One of the most efficient ways is through an online safety course, one of which is available through the Canadian Online Safety Training Association (COSTA). With their online basic firefighting course, users are able to complete the training at their own pace anytime and anywhere, thus eliminating the need for travel costs or down-time on-site.rnProviding this safety training course will, in the end, cost less for an organization when a potentially devastating blaze is extinguished before it has the chance to do any major damage to people or property, and the knowledge and skills learned, while applicable to the job-site, can also keep workers and their families equally safe at home.
