In a city where a half million dollar house is considered a fixer-upper, renovations are common. Vancouver’s reputation as Canada’s real estate hotspot is made even more complicated by a huge student population. With three universities (Simon Fraser, University of British Columbia and Capilano) located 20 minutes or less from the city center, there are also over a quarter of a million post-secondary students living within the Greater Vancouver district. So how does a coastal paradise that’s in the middle of an unprecedented real estate boom, with renovations constantly underway on everything from homes to small businesses and a transitional population of 250,000 students, stay clean? There is a tremendous amount of trash, junk and construction debris being generated. The City of Vancouver does its part, with garbage collection rules and regulations that are designed to weigh the needs of residents and business owners against environmental considerations. Landfills don’t last forever, after all, and pollution from e-waste and other hazardous materials is a proven threat. So recycling is in everyone’s best interest. However, the idea of being green and clean is one thing, but when you attempt to apply that requirement to a city of over 2 million, with constant construction, nonstop renovation and hundreds of thousands of students, the practicality of the concept can be questionable. Consider the dilemma faced by landlords. They face frequent turnover of tenants and every time they have a vacated apartment, they need to clean it out. Quickly. Preparing a rental unit for a new tenant can involve removing damaged carpet, and might involve replacing appliances. There could be abandoned furniture such as old mattresses, couches and sometimes clunky old CRT televisions. Bags of garbage, including recyclables such as bottles and cans. And there’s almost always painting to be done. Disposing of all this stuff —quickly, conveniently and cost effectively— is challenging. Coordinating city garbage pickup for the basic garbage, separating out the recyclables and driving other items such as e-waste or appliances to a designated disposal facility is time consuming and inconvenient. The solution is calling a junk collection company. One call, everything is carried out to a truck by a professional crew, hauled away and disposed of according to environmental regulations. The cost is affordable since the landlord only pays for the space used on the truck. The junk collector option is ideal for large cleanups and for getting rid of renovation debris too. With one call rubbish removal Vancouver home and business owners are able to have a spotless property. It’s the green disposal solution with no waiting for city garbage collection, no sorting, no heavy lifting and no dumpsters.
