The Internet has changed the way successful marketing is done. Websites and social media marketing are indispensable marketing tools of today. Every thriving business has an online presence. Websites that perform well don’t just happen; they are carefully planned. If an existing site is performing poorly some of the steps that can be taken include reviewing website analytics and other data to determine what is and what is not working as well as surveying site visitors. It’s always a good idea to visit the websites of existing competition. This provides an opportunity to explore what others are doing and to see various website formats, designs and messages. Such information can be extremely helpful when creating a website that performs well. The search terms that will be used for optimization on the website should be determined before the site is created. These are the terms that site visitors, the target audience, will use to find the site. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important for site visitors and it helps the site get found by search engines. Titles and content should include the search terms as the site pages are created. Responsive Web Design A responsive web design is one that is fluid, can expand, contract and the content can be rearranged or removed based upon the user’s screen size. This makes it possible for the design to display optimally on various sized screens, which means customers can view and interact with a site regardless of the device they are using. This results in decreased bounce rates and ultimately, increased conversions. Defining the Target Audience Although there will be a “target audience” for any website, it should be noted that within that particular audience there will also be different groups of individuals searching for specific information and or services. The website should provide easy navigation for those individuals, guiding them to what they need. The pathways should guide visitors not only to what they need but there should also be prompts for them to take appropriate actions. Services Marketing Versus Product Marketing It is important to make the distinction between Services Marketing and product marketing. With the latter it is the value of the product that is the focus and that is of the essence. However, the goal of services marketing is to develop a personal rapport or connection with customers. This creates a loyalty that results in the customer becoming a “repeat” or “return” customer. Obviously the quality of the service is essential in services marketing; it is quality that creates value for the customer. How Branding Fits In A brand is much more than a logo. It has to do with how consumers perceive a business; the thoughts that are connected to the brand. Therefore, the brand helps to create value. Modern branding ideas are sophisticated methods designed to increase the credibility and visibility of professional services brands.
