Monitoring the different stages of pregnancy week by week is of great need for comfort of the mother and safety of the child. It is important to know why this extreme care is demanded by medical practitioners. As the pregnancy starts, the child inside grows step by step. Different stages of growth are there where the whole body of the child grows into a full human being. It is important to know by when the baby starts moving and by when the eyes and ears and brain develop, so that appropriate food supplement that is the best can be given. To monitor stepwise, the whole duration of pregnancy is divided into three trimesters out of the total duration of 40 weeks. Out of these trimesters of pregnancy, the first and the third is supposed to be most critical. In the first trimester, the initial growth of the child happens after fertilization. In the third, the baby is almost fully grown and heavy, able to move about inside. But it is in between these two trimesters that the actual growth of various main organs takes place. The eye and ear development starts off by about the 17th. and 18th. weeks, which is the time when the second trimester of pregnancy commences, taking it up from the first. The skin growth also happens during this phase, when it gradually thickens from a semitransparentmembrane into the fully protective one. Since major organ growth happens now, food intake of the mother is very important. It is advised to take in protein rich food like chicken and milk, but to avoid red meat owing to its other side effects. Fruits and vegetables become very important as they supply the much needed minerals and vitamins which are must for the growth. A lot of water is also needed so that the food from the mother reaches the baby’s body. It is in this phase that the mother needs to be very restful; more so because of the fact that some negative symptoms may also set in now. For instance, this is the phase when the mother may be affected by gestational diabetes. It happens due to incapability of the mother’s body to produce enough of insulin. Older mothers are more prone to it, and if you have a family history of diabetes, then also, this can happen. Antenatal depression is another symptom that the mother can develop now. This happens chiefly because of hormonal changes and imbalances that set in during this time as the baby grows and hormonal requirement of the child also has to be supplemented. As the baby grows heavier, the placenta position needs to be monitored and checked at this stage very intensely. Low placenta condition can be a problem. Once you succeed to sail through this trimester without much problem, you can safely head towards a safe delivery of a healthy baby.
