This technology is of the future and it will surely replace traditional telephone service at some point in time.

This system is becoming increasingly popular amongst the business community and the demand for it is steeply going up by the day. This is not to say that this system is absolutely perfect and completely devoid of demerits. It will therefore be worthwhile to do a study of the pros and cons of these systems.

Pros:

It can be stated without fear of contradiction that this system has numerous advantages over traditional telephone service. The first and foremost advantage is the cost benefits. Users have a high-speed internet connection can make phone calls from PC-to-PC anywhere in the world for free. Even the more commo
PC-to-Phone calls are tremendously cheaper than regular phone service.

Another noteworthy advantage of internet phone is it is portable. You can make and receive phone calls at all places where is a broadband accessibility by simply signing in to your VOIP account. When you are traveling on business, all you need to do is to simply carry a headset or this phone system then you can talk to anyone you wish in a most economical way.. Besides phone-to phone system is also portable as these phones are compact and light enough to carry anywhere.

This system provides a host of useful features like call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller ID and 3way-conferencing. Several standard features are there that come to you without any extra charge. Even while you are conversing on the phone, you can send pictures and documents at the same time.

Cons:

There is no denying that there are a few drawbacks with this system. The first is the fact that you will be able to avail internet phone service during a power outage unlike traditional phone service that will not be affected by black-outs. Yet another shortcoming of this system is limited emergency calling.

Emergency (911) calls can be another problem area for many prospective customers. In the event that you need to call 911 but have to suddenly leave without speaking, your call can be traced when dialed from a traditional phone. This will not be the case with VoIP. But, it is understood that a new technology is being developed called 'e911' that will make this feasible.

There are certain other complaints like, having undependable sound quality and data sent across the Internet usually arrives at its destination scrambled.

There are some security conce
s with this phone system. One is that spyware can be used to access your phone systems. "Packet sniffers" enable hackers to eavesdrop on conversations, and spyware called "dialers" is capable of letting thieves to direct phone calls through your Internet connection. Thus, a business Internet phone system needs to have firewall security integrated with the rest of the network.
