Run flat tyres have been recently introduced by some very well-known car makers. The tyres are installed on some newer model vehicles. These types of tyres allow cars to be driven even after a puncture has taken place. Basically if a tyre gets puncture, the driver will be able to drive the car to a service station and then take the care back on the road after the appropriate repairs have been done. There are both pros and cons of using run flat tyres on your car and knowing the pros and cons can help you make the right decision. Below are some of the pros and cons of installing these types of tyres on your car. Pros If a blowout occurs then this can put you in a very dangerous position, especially if a blowout occurs when you are driving along the motorway where you are driving at a high speed. If you have these types of tyres on your car and you have a blowout, then all you have to do is drive to the nearest service station. Even if the nearest service station is 30km away, you should still be able to make it. Having these types of tyres can end up saving you money as well as giving you more luggage space in your car. The reason for this is because you will no longer need a spare tyre. As the life of these types of tyres improves, the more mileage will be achieved. Cons Some drivers say that after a blowout they were unable to repair the flat tyre and they actually had to buy a new tyre for their car. This could have happened after driving for only 50 km. Manufacturers recommendations say that a car that has these type of flat tyres installed can drive almost 100 km but drivers report that the wheel rim gets damaged when driven this far. This causes drivers to incur additional expenses because they will have to buy a new tyre as well as a new wheel. A couple of drivers had to get their cars towed because they were unable to drive the distance of 100 km, and this cost them a lot of money. The lifespan of the tyres were shortened by 20,000 to 40,000 km, and this resulted in less returns and higher expenses. Investing into these types of tyres is a hard decision to make. The overall maintenance expenditure could be increased if these tyres are installed on your vehicle. However, repairs and servicing the tyres could end up being expensive. There is always an element of luck to a purchase like this but you ultimately know the type of distances and condition you drive in and you would be the best to judge the likelihood of punctures.
