The prostate gland, a crucial organ in the male body, plays a significant role in both reproductive and urinary functions. Prostatitis, an inflammation of the prostate, emerges as a common condition affecting men, with the potential to manifest as either acute or chronic. This condition not only causes discomfort but also raises questions about its origins and effective treatments. A myth prevails among many that masturbation can lead to prostatitis. This belief has gained traction, especially among young men in their 20s who experience symptoms like perineal pain, frequent urination, and urgency, only to be diagnosed with chronic prostatitis. Intriguingly, a commonality found among these young men is their history of frequent masturbation, often multiple times a day over several years. Masturbation, in essence, is not drastically different from sexual activity. In moderation, it serves as a relief for sexual stress, preventing discomfort from sexual repression. For healthy, unmarried young men, masturbating one to two times per week without discomfort is considered normal. However, the narrative changes with excessive masturbation, which is linked to chronic prostatitis. During sexual arousal, the prostate becomes congested, leading to localized blood stagnation in the reproductive organs. This prolonged congestion creates a breeding ground for bacteria, resulting in tissue damage due to toxins produced by these bacteria. This damage exacerbates the creation of free radicals in the body, perpetuating a damaging cycle. Furthermore, excessive masturbation can cause repeated congestion in the prostate, weakening the body's resistance. Poor hygiene during such activities can further elevate the risk of bacterial invasion and prostatitis. Contrary to popular belief, abstaining from masturbation alone is not an effective solution for prostatitis. Patients with prostatitis have an accumulation of bacteria, pathogenic microorganisms, and inflammatory substances in the prostate. Abstinence does not eliminate these harmful substances, thus not serving as a cure. Timely medical intervention is essential. The complexity of prostatitis often leads to persistent symptoms even after antibiotic treatment. The prostate's tough capsule and blocked gland ducts pose challenges in medication delivery to the affected area. Traditional Chinese medicine, such as the Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill, claims to penetrate the prostate capsule, reaching the lesion directly to kill bacteria and repair tissues. For those diagnosed, it is crucial not to succumb to panic or anxiety. Active treatment seeking, coupled with healthy lifestyle habits, can lead to clinical cure or significant relief. In daily life, avoiding prolonged cycling or sitting and periodically standing can alleviate perineal pressure and enhance blood circulation. It's vital to recognize that prostatitis has various causes, and while excessive masturbation might be a contributing factor, it is not the sole cause. Treatment should be grounded in a clear understanding of the underlying causes, followed by appropriate medical care and lifestyle adjustments. Moderation is key. For patients without a history of frequent masturbation, moderate masturbation can be beneficial in expelling prostate fluid and does not adversely affect prostatitis. Thus, mere cessation of masturbation is not a standalone remedy for prostatitis recovery.
