Studies reveal that every year, more than 100.000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. The disease results because of the abnormal and uncontrollable division of cells in the prostate gland. The severity of the cancer depends on the rate of the growth of these cells.

Prostate cancer is common among men more than 45 years of age. Chances of being afflicted by this condition greatly arise if there is a family history of the prostate cancer. So if an immediate predecessor, father or brother, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the chances of developing this condition increase significantly as a result of the mutation in the gene BRCA2 (faulty BRCA2 gene).

Common symptoms include enlargement of the prostate gland, which in turn, constricts the urethra and affects the passage of urine from the body. The colour of the urine changes from normal to darker yellow and reddish yellow. There may also be blood in urine and semen. The patient may also feel pain in the back, pelvis, thighs, hips and ribs.

It is important to note that the symptoms of prostate cancer may also be confused with another condition known as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy), so if you come across these symptoms, you should consult a physician immediately to ensure that the nature of the problem.

Diagnostic tests for prostate cancer include blood test, X-ray tests, biopsy in which the specialists would take tissues from the affected/susceptible area and study them under the microscope. Other tests include ultrasound scanning for the abnormal changes, physical tests and some other diagnostic tests. In a blood test, the doctor check for a protein named PSA in your body to determine cancer. The physician will also study your family history to determine if you have prostate cancer.

Treatment for prostate cancer includes surgery and the surgeons may in some cases remove part of the prostate gland to ensure that the cancer does not spread to the healthy part of the gland. The treatment also includes radiotherapy to destroy the cancer cells with high energy rays.

Chemotherapy is also employed to treat prostate cancer. Generally hormonal therapy is preferred over chemotherapy treatment as chemotherapy has very limited uses.

The physicians will also prescribe medications to treat the disease and relieve pain. These medications are easily available in drug stores and online prescription pharmacies. If you reside in the USA, you can order these medications from online prescription pharmacies in the USA and the order will be delivered at your doorstep within the specified time mentioned on the website of the pharmacy.
