Security is one of the many problems that all companies must deal with in order to succeed. Most companies have dealt with their computer security, usually by making sure the LAN is secure, firewalls are in place, and that the employees have been lectured about passwords. Physical security has also dealt with, from making sure that the doors are properly secured to security guards. However, it is likely that the business still throws away its garbage, and that can represent a number of security issues all by itself. A company is dependent on its paperwork. Every scrap of paper is part of that definition; the business is built on its policies, receipts and employee files just as much as steel and glass. A thief can use that paper to bring it down, just by figuring out what he has. Policies can help him find out how the business works, and provide vital clues to how it thinks. Receipts tell the thief where the business puts its money and how it gets that money. However, the employee files can bring the biggest payday, as they include not just the personality of those employees, which is a valuable edge in and of itself, but also their personal information, and that information can be used to steal their identities. There are ways to defend against that kind of theft. The company needs ways of destroying that information when it is no longer needed, and the most effectively way of dealing with paper is to shred it. Although it can do all of the shredding itself, there are some reasons to work with professionals. Not only does it ensure that the paper has been destroyed, the professionals can also make sure that the paper is not rendered into scrap paper and accidentally used for other purposes. The professionals can also look for more efficient ways of dealing with eliminating paper trails. As documents are not just paper, a good company can also destroy documents no matter what form they are in. This means the ability to take a hard drive and wipe it so clean that not a trace of data can be found on it by a computer forensics expert. It also means practicing a number of tasks that help the environment, such as recycling paper and electronics. Of course, by recycling the paper and electronics waste it also means that the data is also irretrievably gone, making for a clean sweep of data, both electronic and hard copy. A good shredding company can also make some additional recommendations as far as document deletion goes, such as setting the computer's recycle bin on a schedule, which also helps security. All of these various services not only make the company more secure, but also make sure that the employees are protected. This allows the company to operate smoothly, secure in the knowledge that it has been taken care of on a number of different levels, and that it can operate with the confidence that its every move is as secure as it can be. For a company's morale, there is no better feeling than knowing that you are as secure as a bug in a rug.
