There are bad guys who are constantly looking for ways to breach the security of merchant accounts for your ecommerce website. They want to steal credit card information of customers. They usually go for credit card processing systems. Web merchant accounts are the victims of fraud attacks especially if they have weak passwords. They will try to access the merchant account and they process fraud credit card transactions. Ideally as a business owner, you need to implement procedures that will help your merchant account provider in protecting their payment processing that can fight against thefts and hackers. This is also a way to protect the customers as well. As a merchant, you need to monitor every transaction that is happening in your website. If there is sudden increase in the number of transactions then it is an indication that criminals are testing your credit card processing systems. Look into the number of credit card transactions. If it’s higher than usual then do a manual checking of customers who have ordered from the website. Check also if there is similar transactions happening in your merchant account. Fraudulent transactions are something that doesn’t have customer information. If it is coming from same internet protocol address, then it is a red flag that the system is compromised. In checking your merchant accounts for ecommerce, look into the account numbers. If you see similar numbers then it could be from software generates fraud credit card numbers. Another thing is to analyze transactions coming from a single account. Check also the duration of every transaction. These are the signs of fraud. To protect your merchant account, you implement also some practices that can detect fraud and other security issues. Choose a provider that has secured infrastructure that can protect not only your business but also your customers.
