In many ancient traditions it’s recommended that people drink water 2 or 3 times a day from a copper vessel. And in India in Ayurvedic Medicine drinking copper water is very important for good health.
Regulates Thyroid Function - Most people think of iodine for healing the thyroid but copper is also important for regulating thyroid function. And with all the thyroid disease going on these days it might be very important to drink 2 or 3 glasses of copper water daily… thus healing the thyroid gland. A lack of copper can create both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
Healing Anemia - Lots of people are low in iron and that can also be attributed to a lack of copper in their diet. Copper helps the body utilize iron and thus creates more hemoglobin and carry more oxygen. So if a person has anemia they might want to drink some copper water daily.
Neurological Health - Copper helps create the myelin sheath that covers all the nerves in the body like insulation on wires in a house. Copper is important in creating phospholipids which are the main components of the myelin sheaths of nerves. Thus copper is important for preventing convulsions and for good brain health.
Anti-inflammatory - Copper is also a good anti-inflammatory agent helping to heal arthritis, joint disease, redness, pain, and swelling.
Fights Cancer - We are not exactly sure how copper helps to fight cancer but studies have shown that copper compounds do help with cancer… more studies to be done.
Slows the Aging Process - Copper works in the process of getting rid of free radicals and thus helps to prevent and heal DNA damage. And this means that copper also slows the aging process, and copper is a very powerful antioxidant which helps with the healing of the body in general.
Great for the Immune System - Copper helps to boost up our immune system, and it restores and heals cells, and works wonders for stomach irritations and gastric ulcers.
Cardiovascular Health - The American Cancer Society says that copper can lower cholesterol, triglycerides, and lower blood pressure. And copper helps the body to dilate blood vessels thus helping to lower blood pressure.
Antibacterial and Antiviral - Copper is also a good antiviral and antibacterial agent. Water in copper vessels kills bacteria and it helps to prevent infections in the body. Copper kills Staph and E Coli infections and thus can help to prevent water borne diseases. In fact a study was done with a super bug being placed on a stainless steel plate and also on a copper plate and within minutes the superbug on the copper was killed completely. Studies are being done about adding copper to certain materials to prevent the spread of disease in hospitals. And a study at the University of South Carolina showed that using copper surfaces in Intensive Care Unites prevent the spread of disease by 40%.
