Common chronic, non-contagious and inflammatory skin disease which tends to follow a course of flare-up and periods of remission. Psoriasis most commonly presents itself with very scaly red or white patches of skin. Symptoms can appear at any age but are most likely in the early stages of adulthood or in later life − around 50–60 years of age. EARLY SYMPTOMS: Patches of Psoriasis are different from dry skin. In this condition, both blood vessels and deeper epidermal skin layers are involved. Psoriasis is caused by a defect in cell growth. A genetic predisposition is an underlying factor. Other factors that may be responsible are Inflammatory reactions in skin, dryness, etc. CAUSES: Psychological stress is a major factor for psoriasis, it may worsen the condition, and, in some cases, maybe enough to trigger it. rnInfections are often involved in the development of psoriatic symptoms. Pathogen like Streptococci bacteria, is the most commonly implicated pathogens and are linked to Guttate Psoriasis. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), although not a direct cause of Psoriasis, is known to increase the likelihood of developing more severe Psoriasis in cases where the condition already exists.rnPsoriasis is inherited as incidences of Psoriasis are high among the relatives of affected individuals. It is believed to be a result of an abnormality in the immune system. This immune system’s abnormality may cause the cells in our skin to grow rapidly. Below given are basic home remedies which act as Herbal Treatment For Psoriasis: Ginger:- Ginger detoxifies the blood and has anti-inflammatory effects on psoriasis. It also contains antimicrobial compounds that will prevent infections. How to Use: 1. Mix the herb in hot water for a few minutes.rn2. Strain the tea and add honey and lemon juice according to your flavor.rn3. Sip on this tea while it is still warm.rnDrink 1-2 cups of ginger tea every day. Aloe Vera:- The softening and moisturizer properties of aloe vera give relief from the itchiness and irritation. Its anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants help to reduce the swelling and treat the skin condition faster. How to Use: 1. Extract fresh gel from an aloe leaf and blend this along with the lavender oil.rn2. Apply some of this on the affected part and let it sit for 20-25 minutes.rnYou can also use aloe vera gel by itself to treat psoriasis. Use this gel twice a week on the affected skin. Coconut Oil:- Coconut oil is one of the best home remedies for psoriasis which gives amazing results. This will give your skin relief from the symptoms and lock the oil’s nutrients in your skin, preventing the dry patches from spreading or recurring.rnIf you do not have coconut oil handy, many alternate oils can be used for psoriasis. These include castor oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, mustard oil, hemp oil, and vitamin E oil. How to Use: 1. Lightly heat the oil to melt it.rn2. Apply this on the skin and massage gently.rn3. Leave this on overnight.rnYou can add a few drops of an essential oil to coconut oil before applying it, for faster results. The best essential oils that benefit psoriasis patients are lavender oil, tea tree oil, neem oil, and peppermint oil. Repeat this twice a week. Glycerin:- rnGlycerin is a great moisturizer and softening agent. It locks in moisture and treats the dryness and flakiness. How to use: 1. Apply glycerin on the patches on the skin and leave it on as an overnight treatment.rn2. Take bath as usual in the morning.rnRepeat this once or twice a week depending on the severity of your patches. Witch Hazel:- This wonderful herb contains some unique properties. This constitutes anti-inflammatory and astringent properties that are very effective properties to treat skin conditions like psoriasis. Symptoms like itching sensation, flaky skin, and irritation can be reduced to a great extent. How to Use: 1. Wash your hair with shampoo.rn2. Dilute the witch hazel with water. Apply this on affected skin and massage for a minute or two.rn3. Rinse it off after a few minutes.rnDo this once a week. Yogurt:- Yogurt helps to reduce itching by moisturizing the skin. It also exfoliates the dry and dead skin cells from the psoriasis bumps. How to Use: 1. Apply the yogurt on the scalp and let it sit for half an hour.rn2. Wash the yogurt off with a mild shampoo.rnRepeat this once a week. Apple cedar vinegar:- Apple cider vinegar constitutes anti-inflammatory properties. This can help reduce the soreness and irritation of the affected skin. Antiseptic properties of apple cedar vinegar can also help to prevent skin infections. How to Use: 1. Dilute 2 tablespoons of ACV with half a cup of water.rn2. Apply this on the scalp using a Q-tip.rn3. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off thoroughly.rnRepeat this twice a week.
