In the modern world, the number of people suffering from different mental problems has been steadily increasing. Due to the failure of conventional treatment methods, more and more people are now turning to different unconventional methods like psychotherapy which has several treatment techniques under it that include experimental relationship building, dialogue, and behavioral change.

History Of Psychotherapy

Although psychotherapy is becoming more popular with each passing day, this particular treatment method is quite ancient dating back to ancient Greeks who were the first ones to classify different mental disorders as medical conditions. Before them, any mental illness was associated with different malevolent entities. After Rome fell, the old belief of mental orders being part of superstition again took hold. However, many physicians like Paracelsus still used this method to treat their patients. Various other famous psychiatrists like Walter Cooper Dendy, Sigmund Freud, and many others have made important active therapy contributions in the field. For over last fifty years, Freud's practices and methods have been considered to be the major contribution in this field.

Different Psychotherapy Treatments

Smoking: With millions of men world over trying to quit smoking, only about 4% actually are able to do so. This therapy is actually considered to be one of the more successful methods to stop smoking as it uses subconscious mind to alter the person's thinking process. Hypnotherapy, which comes under this therapy, is one of the proven methods illustrated in the New Scientist magazine.

Panic Attacks: Panic Attacks are intense anxiety periods that can occur without any warning or reason affecting a person's complete schedule. Rather than medications, cognitive behavioral therapy works better in effectively treating most of the cases. This involves various relaxation techniques and helps a person in understanding the emotions causing the panic attacks.

Others: Various other mental disorders can be cured through the use of psychological therapy treatment. These include anger management, depression, marriage counseling, dream interpretation and others.

Advantages Of The Therapy

There are various advantages of consulting psychotherapist counselors to deal with mental problems. Some of them are:

*It treats patients through the use of neurology and various psychiatric disciplines to treat mental illnesses like schizophrenia, personality disorders, and learning disabilities.
*It has a specific branch that helps in treating the people through medicines. This is termed as psychopharmacology involving the study of how a particular medicine works for various medical disorders.
*A psychological therapy counseling session helps people through the use of Talk therapy. There are certain mental illnesses that do not require any medication. Rather, various mental disorders like Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) are effectively treated by talk sessions conducted by the therapist rather than any medication.

Thus, psychotherapy helps in fighting the mental issues related to the deep rooted emotions and feelings. This saves a lot of heartache and headache for both the person and his or her family. For people who are battling with different mental problems day in and day out, this therapy offers a viable solution for all their problems.
