Public speaking: dating
Dating is safe to use during public speaking engagements because if the date isn't fun, it doesn't matter, since you're just reciting it. You didn't write it. It can still be used to make your point.
You can use the power of the name of the person who wrote it. People are more likely to laugh or at least laugh if a famous person makes up the quote.
If you're not sure who the quote belongs to, it doesn't matter at all. Unless I'm absolutely sure who said something, I always turn myself in. I usually say 'I THINK' it was ____________ who said. This keeps me out of trouble for attributing the quote to the wrong person. Sometimes I say, 'My great-great-grandfather used to say. . ., or 'My old aunt Maude used to say. . . ;. However, if you know for sure who said something and their name carries weight, go ahead and use it.
There are literally thousands upon thousands of remarkable quotes available to you. Stop at any bookstore and look at appointment books. You can also search the Internet for search quote websites. These are just a few examples of some of my favorite quotes:
* Men occasionally stumble upon the truth, but most of them get up and hurry as if nothing has happened. Winston Churchill
* I am a friend of the worker, and I would rather be his friend than be. Clarence Darrow
* I never made a mistake in my life; at least, never one that I couldn't explain later. Rudyard kipling
* Get your data first and then you can distort it as much as you like. Mark Twain https://tapchianhdep.com/nhung-cau-stt-hay-ve-cuoc-song/
* Many of us spend half our time wishing for things that we might have if we did not spend half our time wishing. Alexander Woollcott
* Is more likely to bring heat than light to an argument. Woodrow Wilson
* Everything comes to the one who rushes while waiting. Thomas Edison
* When you have an elephant by the hind legs and it is trying to escape, it is better to let it run. Abe Lincoln
* It takes less time to do something right than to explain why you did it wrong. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
* When you get to the end of the rope, tie a knot and hold on. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
* First of all, God made idiots; This was for practice. Then he did school meetings. Mark Twain
(remove school boards and replace anything that suits your purpose).
When you're funny, don't feel bad about twisting appointments to meet your situation. Mark Twain will never say a word about it. Neither does anyone else if you present your date saying: 'Someone once said' or 'My great-great-grandfather used to say'. Then change the appointment in the way that suits you best.
