One of these great tourist destinations is Pushkar, which is situated in the royal state of Rajasthan. The annual Pushkar Fair allows everyone, tourist or local, to experience the traditional beauty of Rajasthan. It has become quite famous for the foreign tourists because of the rich culture of Rajasthan it puts on display. The art and crafts reflect the traditional lifestyle of this great land.
The Pushkar Fair was originally a camel fair where live stocks were brought and sold. It was and still is one of its own kinds of fair all over the world. It is not only famous for camel trade but also for cattle and horse trade. Later, more things were added to the fair like local dance, music, arts and crafts to attract more tourists. This allowed tourists to enjoy the local lifestyle and to get their hands on the amazing and fine handicrafts of local made. In addition, many funny competitions are held to entertain the tourists like camel race, friendly cricket match between foreign tourists and locals, music competitions and many others.

One of the competitions that is held in the fair is the camel beauty contest. In this contest, camels are decorated with beautiful embroideries, and mirror worked saddlecloth. These ships of desert look amazingly beautiful when they are decorated like this. The other unusual contest is the mustache competition. All you have to do to win this competition is to have the longest mustache.

The main interesting attraction of the Pushkar Fair is the cattle competition. A variety of contests are held, which entertains the tourists a lot. The main bazaar is also a great place to go for shopping. The embroidered fabrics, Rajasthani puppets, silver and beaded jewelry and other handicrafts are very popular among the international tourists. The Pushkar fair is considered as the India's greatest tribal gathering.

Getting to Pushkar is also interesting. A road going through hills is windy and is full of natural scenes. This makes it an exciting journey as one can have the beautiful view of flower plants on both sides of the road. One can also enjoy small walks and rests under the shade of the tree while they take a break from their drive. The natural beauty is also a major factor for the increased tourism in Pushkar.

Pushkar Fair is celebrated every year in November and is held for five days. There is a sacred lake in the town of Pushkar. This fair is also important religiously as thousands of devotees from various places arrive in Pushkar to take a dip in that holy lake and to pray to the Gods for their blessings. Although authentic Indian food is the main choice in the fair, continental delicacies are also arranged for the tourists. The town becomes alive during the fair as so many people enjoy the hospitality of Rajasthan. All the five days are full of music, dance, magic and puppet shows. One can have a lifetime experience during the fair.
