In the business communication era, all the business related communication takes place through the internet. Communications via internet may take any form such as chat, e-mail, audio call, video call, conferencing, etc. Attending all the business communication and responding to it is the basic necessity to avoid losing business opportunities. Since business communication through any form is important, one needs to integrate all modes of communication. For this purpose, Unified Communication came into existence.

Unified communication provides a seamless integration of all the real time as well as the non-real time modes of communications. This means that all the real time modes of communication such as audio conferencing, chat or instant messaging, presence information, audio conferencing, etc. and all the non-real modes of communication such as fax, SMS, e-mail, etc. can be integrated and access to any mode of business communication can be provided from anywhere, anytime and via any media or device.

The various benefits that this system offers are:

ï Presence Information: You can know whether a person is present i.e. it is a status indicator which indicates whether a particular user is present online or not.

ï Clubbing all real time and non-real time communications: All sorts of business communication can be accessed from anywhere, anytime.

ï Instant Messaging: It is text messaging or chat through which instant messages can be exchanged.

ï Unified Mailbox: Access to all sorts of business communication can be provided through a single inbox. It means that one mailbox is required to access SMS, fax, e-mail, chat, etc.

ï Reduced Response Time: Since all communication modes are available in one place, the time required to respond to customer queries can be greatly reduced.

ï Online Transactions: All sorts of transactions such as e-commerce, m-commerce, online banking, etc. can be performed.

ï Multimedia Services: All different types of media such as text, audio, video, etc. can be unified over a single unit of application.
If one refers to these features independently, they will cost too much to integrate with the system. Usually small businesses are not able to invest such a lot but that doesn’t mean that they cannot enjoy the benefits of all these features. Hosted PBX systems provide all the hardware required for communication and this hardware is maintained off-site by the service provider. Virtual PBX provides all the smart calling functionality integrated with Unified Communication. This system reduces the cost and complexity since the hardware is set up and maintained by the service provider.
Moreover, this system integrated with Unified Communication puts an end to constraints on business communications. You can carry your business with you. If you are not on your desk and a caller needs to talk to you, then it can be transferred to your cell phone or home phone and you can access your business communications from anywhere, anytime and through any device. The advanced calling features offered by PBX systems create a professional image for your company in the minds of the customers and you appear to be at par with the Fortune 500. So, even after being a small enterprise, you can avail all the smart calling functionalities that the large organizations use, at a reasonable price.
