Put Your Goals Out There!
By Dave Ferguson, 01/02/2011
Happy New Year! Thanks for reading my weekly column in 2010. The last few months we really covered a lot of ground around goal setting, planning, and strategizing. Hopefully, you have yours ready. Once you have written down your goals, I highly recommend you publicize them. Yes, announce them to everyone you know; family, friends, enemies, co-workers, etc. That’s right. Tell everyone, take out an ad, Tweet them, post them on Facebook, or if you’re really brave, put them on a billboard. It may make you feel a bit uncomfortable but you know what I say about that. “To change you have to get uncomfortable”. Put them out there this year…put it all on the line!
By publicizing your goals, you really put yourself out there. And while many will look at it as added pressure, I tend to look at it as incentive. You should too! You see, if I hit my goals, chances are many of my clients have hit theirs, as well. Isn’t that a win…win! In addition, just by putting these out there in front of you today, I have the opportunity to inspire thousands of people.

So here are a few of Coach Dave’s business and personal goals for 2011.

• GOAL: Increase revenue by 30%:
1. Complete one Marketing and Leadership Boot Camp per quarter.
2. Start a new “Winning Strategies” or “Synergy Circles” group each quarter.
3. Expand into two additional markets.
4. Continue to ask my current clients to market for me. They are my top salespeople and the best sales force a business owner could ask for.

• GOAL: Hire Three Additional Coaches:
1. Add one general business coach in first quarter.
2. Add one phone coaching specialist by the end of the first quarter.
3. Add one industry specific coach in second quarter (Insurance, Banking, or Manufacturing).

• GOAL: Hire a Full-time Personal Assistant:
1. Develop job description.
2. Conduct market survey to develop salary range.
3. Target, interview, and complete due diligence on at least five top candidates.
4. Have several advisors involved in selection process.

• GOAL: Broaden Business Scope and Revenue Streams:
1. Develop Personality and Pyscho-Geometric workshop.
2. Create workshop devoted to the Business of Life.
3. Continue to develop and grow my network of business relationships.
4. Develop “Vision” program for youths.
• GOAL: Continue to work on balance:
1. Exercise five days per week for at least one hour per session.
2. Continue eating healthy 80% of the time (you gotta live, right?)
3. Pray daily and attend church services regularly.
4. Read at least one book per month.
5. Continue to add and develop personal friendships.
6. Take vacation and/or long weekends at least once per quarter.
7. Continue to develop tennis skills.
8. Engage with bike riding group.

• Here are a few of my “musts”, that I keep in front of me every year:
1. I must trust my GOD and give praises to him always.
2. I must honor my temple by living a healthy lifestyle.
3. I must read more books that inspire me spiritually.
4. I must develop new friendships.
5. I must forgive those who have hurt me and apologize to those I’ve hurt.
6. I must listen better.
7. I must continue to volunteer.
8. I must strive daily to make a difference in people’s lives.
9. I must be thankful for all my gifts and use them to help others.
10. I must continue to set my bar higher….and get over it!

I hope some of these inspire you to publicize your goals and then make them happen! If I can help you, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will have plenty of help knocking my goals out of the ballpark! Challenge yourself and make 2011 the year you made a difference!
