Q: My girlfriend and I were talking the other day and things started to get a little serious. At the end of the conversation, I found out my girlfriend no longer loves me. Should we should break up?

A: If your girlfriend doesn't love you anymore, there must be something wrong with your relationship. Somehow, the dynamic changed and now, she is questioning her feelings for you. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean that things have to be over. Just take a look at what changed in the relationship and do your best to revive the love that the two of you had. It doesn't mean you have to break up. At times, all it takes is a reality check like this to shake a couple into taking the required steps to get their relationship back on track.

Q: My girlfriend says she wants to stay in a relationship with me although she doesn't love me anymore to see if things get better with some time. Why?

A: It is most likely her genuine desire.

Probably, she invested much time into being with you and she feels a little bit of remorse at the thought of throwing it all away.

What is most likely to happen is that she will end up sticking around with you long enough for a new guy to come along and catch her attention although she is probably hoping for the best.

At that point, she might dump you in a very perplexed and intricate break up for this new guy.

Just break up with her now or get to the crux of the problem and do what you can to fix your relationship with her.

Q: While my girlfriend doesn't love me anymore, she says she still wants to be friends. What does that exactly mean?

A: The whole 'friends' thing is intended to let you down easily, more often than not. Usually, when someone ends a relationship, there is a strong feeling of guilt for hurting the other person (you, in this case) .

People who are breaking up tend to soften the blow by saying things like 'we can still be friends' or 'It's not you, it's me' to ease this sense of guilt.

While your girlfriend may authentically want to be friends with you too, in situations like this, it often results in jealousy and mixed messages when the two of you don't take at least a little time away from each other to heal from the break up.

Take the time to analyze your relationship and understand what happened if your girlfriend told you that she doesn't love you anymore. When did the shift take place taking you away from loving each other? Only by understanding what happened that you can ever have any chance of fixing the relationship.
