Some of the well-known Rajasthan Wildlife Sanctuaries are Ranthambore National Park This is one of the most visited national parks of Rajasthan located in the Sawai Madhopur district. It is also one of the biggest and most renowned national parks in Northern India known for its diverse collection of flora and fauna, semi-desert vegetation and beautiful landscapes. Erstwhile this was a hunting ground of the Maharaja of Jaipur which was declared as national park in 1980 and Project Tiger in 1973. Based on the official data this national park is the home of 40 species of mammals, 320 species of birds (including migratory ones) and 35 reptile species. Keoladeo National Park Because of its exotic collection of avifauna collection this national park is often referred as Ornithologist Paradise. It is situated in the Bharatpur Region of Mewar district and spreads over an area of 29 sq km. This was once a favorite duck-hunting reserve of erstwhile Maharajas, which became a National Park in 1983. The diverse collection of 380 resident and migrant species of birds, 35 species of a butterflies and large number of fauna species make it an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sariska National Park This is another most preferred wildlife sanctuary of Rajasthan visited by scores of tourists from several parts of the globe. Because of high-density of a tiger, this national park came under Project Tiger in 1979. Along with the varied collection of flora and fauna this park is also famous for its scenic landscapes. Some of the most sighted animals of this place are Jungle Cat, Wild Dog, Hyena, Jackal, Leopard and Tiger. Some of the other well-known Rajasthan wildlife Sanctuaries are Darrah, Sajjangarh, Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu.
