Ranking up a website gets more complicated every day. The rules of ranking change and adapt just as the internet itself does. Luckily, people like me are still keeping up with things as they change.
Meet your SEO learning goals by attending a SEO training course.
I’ve taken the liberty of putting together a list and brief explanation of some key ranking factors that will help you stay on top. Take a look!
#1 – Accessible Website in Relation to ‘Google Bots’
The first thing Google bots do when they check your website is to try and map out the entire place. If your website is not accessible, your ranking is certain to be abysmal!
To avoid this problem, there are a few key steps that you need to take. Make sure you’ve set up all three of the following:
- Well-coded web-builder
- Robots.txt file to help the bots learn where they should and shouldn’t go
- Thorough sitemap
Once you’ve made sure all of these are perfectly set up, you stand a much better chance than you did before!
#2 – Mobile Configuration
Nearly half of the people browsing the internet these days are using their phones. On top of that, those who use their phones tend to stick around much longer than others.
If your website isn’t configured for mobile browsing yet, you had better get cracking! Not only will you lose a great many customers who are browsing with their phones, but you will also have a depreciated ranking as Google bots check for these things too.
Make sure to test out your mobile configuration on a few different mobile devices and from several popular browsers. You need to ensure that it looks perfect on as many of them as possible.
#3 – Optimized Content
Finally, you need to have optimized content. Without optimized content, Google bots will take one look at your website and decide that your content is irrelevant. If that happens, you’ll be lucky to have a ranking at all!
Make sure you write interesting, readable content and use a substantial number of keywords to optimize it. Be sure to balance keywords with the flow of the content so that it still makes sense.
On top of that, make sure you link back to high authority websites. The more, the better! (Also, avoid dodgy website links as you could get red-flagged by those)
Obviously, you will still need to do a fair amount more to reach rank #1 than the above three things. However, these factors are among the more significant and essential things to have. So, give yourself a boost by optimizing all of these, then worry about the rest after. Good luck to you all!
