Some fads deserve to have a short run, but the raw food movement isn't one of them. Health-conscious people are learning that unprocessed grains, nuts, vegetables, and fruit are far better for them than packaged and processed food. Animal lovers and pet owners are also learning that the same nutritional precepts apply to their pets. Raw dog food is the ideal way to be sure a dog stays healthy.

Humans have always cooked at least some of their food, but wild animals don't cook the rabbits and squirrels they catch for supper. They know that they'll get the most nutrition from a fresh catch. Herd and pack animals learn from the older generations what to hunt and how to accomplish it. The will to survive transcends species. It's a healthy species that survives.

It's not just meat that wild animals eat, however. Everyone's seen a dog eat grass to settle its stomach. Raw food for pets includes vegetables and even fruit in the mix, for complete nutrition in a dog's diet. Grains, in balance with other foods, round out a diet that rivals and even exceeds even the best hunter in the wild.

Dogs' ancestors did a good job of hunting and finding food, but long domestication has taken away those instincts. We could no more expect our pet dog to feed himself than we would our baby. No one wants to think of their dog surviving on what he could dig out of neighborhood garbage cans, no matter how well the neighbors eat.

Our pets may do tricks and have uncanny intuition about us, they can't go to the store and shop for their own food. But even we as owners need to heed the advice of pet experts to be sure what we choose to feed them is the best for their long-term health.

It's a cooperative effort that combines the modern scientific knowledge and an understanding of an animal's nature with the conce
a pet owner has for the health and longevity of their best friend and companion. For many people, their relationship with their dog is the most fulfilling and satisfying one in their lives.

As people start to understand the debilitating effects of processed food--which removes most of the nutrients from its raw components--on humans, they're also understanding that it's as important to maintain their pets' health as it is to maintain their own. The lives of their pets are in their hands, and a dog's well-being is its owner's responsibility.

People conce
ed about their own health would never eat highly processed food with poisonous preservatives, trans fats, and tons of salt or MSG. That would be unthinkable for them or their family. To ensure that the other member of the family--the loyal dog--won't suffer from an inferior diet, the answer is a raw dog food diet.
