The Call Forwarding feature is an extraordinarily useful feature as it enables you to forward your calls to another phone number, including your home number, office number, mobile number or even voicemail. You have the option to select which phone, landline, cell phone, or extension you want your calls to be forwarded to whenever you are not in your office.

Notwithstanding the fact that modern telephone systems have a host of attractive features, the Call Forwarding feature is arguably the most helpful feature for business enterprises. This is simply because the Call Forwarding feature ensures you do not miss out on any business call.

Call Forwarding is a versatile feature as the user can have the incoming calls sent to different phones at different times of the day. By availing the facility to forward calls during the off hours to a call center, can often result in a sale that may otherwise be lost. Call Forwarding is indeed an essential feature as you cannot be physically present everywhere at all times but still need to attend phone calls from various people at all times.

Call Forwarding feature is indeed a boon to callers as annoying situations like no network, busy, out of reach, unable to receive call etc will no longer be there. Besides, call forwarding feature provides the badly needed human touch. The advanced and more complex call forward service will allow calls to be directed to multiple phones either simultaneously or in sequence until the call is answered.

Succinctly stated, call forwarding feature can increase availability of the called party to a caller. The other alte
ative is an answering machine or voicemail, but many resent leaving a recorded message, suspecting that the party may not return the call or will delay returning their message.

The call forwarding feature is basically of two types - Call Forwarding Variable and Call Forward Busy/No Response. Once you avail Call Forwarding Variable facility, all incoming calls will be received by the telephone operator or the centralized answering services and your particular extension will receive only the calls meant for you or your department.

Call Forwarding Busy/No Response, on the other hand, is a feature that will automatically transfer all incoming calls when all of your lines are busy, or after a pre-determined number of rings. Unlike the Call Forwarding Variable feature, you will not be required to either activate or deactivate Call Forwarding when you choose Busy/No Response feature.

If you select the Call Forwarding Variable option, then you will have to necessarily activate and deactivate the feature. When utilizing Call Forwarding Variable feature, your telephone will generate a half ring each time an incoming call is forwarded - to remind you that your feature is activated.

Some service providers offer international call forwarding feature by allocating for the customer a local virtual phone number which is forwarded to any other international destination. A Call Forwarding service provider may offer the subscriber the option to select a number in another country other than where he is physically located and have the call forwarded to his local phone. This can be a great blessing to businesses that have overseas operations or intend expanding their business to foreign markets.

It is important to remember that the phone call that is forwarded is billed as an outgoing call and that means long distance charges will apply if the number the calls are forwarded to is a long distance number.
