Spiritual practice’ means the practice done through Soul, as opposed to that done through some physical or material things. Your question then is: With the help of Soul, how do we develop courage to handle life adversities?rnFirst and foremost, the Soul needs to be realized. rnOnly when we attain Self-Realization i.e. when we realize our Soul, can we take the help of Soul. Until then, since we do not have the knowledge of Soul, we cannot take the benefit of Soul either. Akram Vignan, the spiritual science that offers a stepless path to Self-Realization, makes this task very easy for us, as we do not have to renounce the world or undergo some strong penance in order to awaken our Soul. It is just the loving grace of the Living Gnani, the Enlightened One that does it!!! Gnani, with his divine spiritual powers, makes us realize that really, “I am not John (the reader may insert his own name here). I am a Pure Soul.” After this realization, when we remain in the company of the Enlightened One and follow His teachings, our awareness of “I am a Pure Soul and my function is only to see and know” begins to enhance. And as this awareness increases more and more, the external circumstances, be it good or adverse, affect us less and less. The courage that comes through the awareness of the Soul is no match against the worldly courage developed through the will-power of the ego (will-power of John). rnHow does this whole process work internally? For the purpose of understanding, we shall assume ‘the pain or suffering from a disease’ as an adversity that has come up in our life. rnWhatever pain, suffering we get in body, everything is discharge karma (the result of the karmas that we’ve charged in past). We cannot change the suffering of this disease.rnThere are 3 parts:rn1.Pure Soulrn2.Egoismrn3.Body. Due to the disease, body may have pain. And egoism has a belief that, “Oh! I have too much of pain.” So, egoism is the sufferer of that pain. And you are a Pure Soul, the knower and seer of pain of John. Now, if the belief of egoism (of being a sufferer) is to be changed, do conversation. Ask egoism of John, “Are you the sufferer or is it the body that is suffering? This pain is in the body, but you are believing that it is with me. Really it is not with you, it is pain in leg, not in you!” If ego’s belief changes, then suffering will reduce, although pain of body remains as it is. rnDue to right understanding of egoism, the suffering gets dissolved. rnSo we have to keep the awareness, “Oh it is with the body, not with me. I am the knower and seer. I am beyond pain.” So, you cannot change the disease, you cannot change the pain in the body by that disease, but you can change the suffering of that pain. More the experience of Pure Soul, in that stage, there is zero percent of suffering. More experience of Pure Soul means all kinds of ego have been dissolved. Egoism is nothing but a collection of wrong beliefs. By awareness, when we dissolve wrong belief, ego gets dissolved and the suffering also gets dissolved. rnIn past life we have made some mistake and charged karma. That karma gives the effect in this life, as a discharge. But in the past life, we didn’t have the knowledge of Pure Soul. So, due to ignorance, we were believing, “I am the doer and whatever I’ve done is correct.” That’s why (due to wrong belief) we have charged new karma in past life. The karma got charged in the past life. But now when it gets discharged, you have realization of the Pure Self. You are knower that “John is having that pain. I am not John. I am Pure Soul”. Therefore, we do not charge new karma. Whatever pain John is getting, is a result of past karma. John is in connection with the cycle of karma. But you are a Pure Soul, and you are out of the cycle of karma. rnHence, to conclude: We can develop and sustain a healthy amount of courage to handle any life adversity, by applying the above science, once:rn1.We have attained Self-Realization, and rn2.We have the right understanding of how to maintain the awareness of the Soul in every circumstance.
