Acne and rosacea are skin conditions that cause eruptions on the skin, making it look unsightly. Rosacea gives the skin a red, flushed look usually around the cheeks, nose, forehead and mouth. When the condition progresses with age, the skin breaks out and becomes unattractive. With this treatment, the redness can be minimized to improve the way the person looks.

What causes rosacea and acne?

Heredity and lifestyle play a major role in causing acne and rosacea. With acne, the skin produces excessive oil as a result of bacteria, causing pimples. Rosacea can be triggered by food, exposure to the sun and stress. While acne may disappear eventually, rosacea simply gets worse without attention.

Acne usually occurs in teenagers, while rosacea can affect everyone. Laser treatment for the redness may not completely cure either of these skin diseases but it can help minimize the redness and scars, improving the person’s appearance and self-esteem significantly.

Types of Laser treatment for redness from rosacea and acne

There are different types of treatments that successfully work to reduce the redness caused by rosacea and acne. For acne, a laser with a specific wavelength is used to enter the surface of the skin and treat the oil glands. For rosacea, the laser relieves the inflammation, shrinking the blood vessels that cause the redness.

Popular laser treatments include:

  • Pulsed-dye laser
  • Smoothbeam
  • Aramis
  • Blu-U Acne light
  • Laser Genesis Nd:Yag laser
  • CO2 laser

This treatment uses lasers with a patented wavelength to access the oil glands under the skin to:

  • Reduce the excessive oil
  • Minimize bacteria production
  • Shrink the oil gland and
  • Relieve the redness and swelling

If you suffer from acne or rosacea, you may require a series of sessions with the laser treatment for redness to feel the difference. The frequency between treatments may vary for acne and rosacea, depending on the intensity. While the treatment could cause bruising and swelling, it is usually tolerated well. After two sessions, there is a significant reduction in swelling and redness.

As most of the laser treatments target the oil glands and bacteria, rosacea and acne can be effectively treated to reduce the skin damage caused by them. The procedure usually does not require anesthesia, although the cosmetic surgeon may use an exte
al topical cream to numb the treatment area. If the skin has large nodules from rosacea and acne, local anesthesia may be required before treatment, followed by an application of antibiotics over the area.

After the redness laser treatment, it could take a few days for the redness to reduce. Some laser treatments show an improvement with each session. Some laser treatments like Nd:Yag involve more than one session while CO2 laser usually works after one session. After a few weeks, there is significant relief from rosacea and acne.
