What is Reiki? Well, Reiki is the vital life force of the Universe. The Japanese meaning of the word Reiki is universal Life Force. With Rei meaning universal consciousness, and Ki meaning life force, energy. This energy is a conscious and intelligent force that streams through and nurtures all life on earth. Reiki stems from the infinite source of all there is and can only do good.

Spiritual energy may seem an enigmatic energy not easy for the mind to comprehend. Yet, the pull of gravity when you think about it is really just as enigmatic to the mind. Scientists still don't really know what gravity is, even though all of us on earth experience its power all through our life.

Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865 - 1926) after many years of investigating its Tibetan and Indian beginnings. The Usui Method of Natural Healing is a way of receiving and delivering Reiki energy.

The Reiki practitioner is just a conduit for the energy and does not pass on any personal energy or take in anyone else's. The Reiki energy safeguards, invigorates both receiver and giver. The thing to remember is that the Reiki practitioner dose not heal the client, the practitioner only passes on the Reiki energy to help the client to set in motion their own healing powers.

The Usui Reiki method of natural healing is generally taught in three levels. At the first level you will be attuned to the Reiki energy, allowing you to use it for treating others as well as for self-healing.

The second level you will be attuned again this will allow you to use the three Reiki symbols for the second level. These symbols will allow you to do distance healing and a lot of other things as well. At the third level (master teacher level) you will again be attuned and you will be given the master symbols. You will then learn how to give attunements, and teach Reiki to others and you will also learn advanced methods for healing with Reiki.

The central ingredient of the initiation into Reiki is the attunement because energy is transmitted through the master to the student. What is happening during this energy transmission is that the student's chakras are being attuned to the higher frequency of Reiki which will allow the student to channel Reiki for the rest of his/her life.

After an attunement, a period of purification for at least twenty-one days is highly advised. Your whole being will adjust to the higher frequency of Reiki over time and it is sensible to upkeep this process with regular self-treatments, and a healthy diet, adequate rest and drinking a sufficient amount of still mineral water. After an attunement a lot of people undergo a greater than before sensitivity for their own energy and that of other living things; as well as an increase in self-confidence and trust in life. Good Luck!
