While it is normal for relationships to lose some of the passion that might have initially been there, it is unhealthy not to continue to work at the relationship, making sure the romance remains solid. Today, more than ever, we get lost in the everyday life. Between cooking dinner, preparing a presentation for a client, and other everyday stresses, we often allow romance to be placed on the backburner. Couples often fail to take the precious few minutes for each other. It is a growing problem, but if you are among the people who feel the romance has deteriorated then there are ways you can build it back up. 1. Take the time to talk to one another – One of the first things to go, and most important to retain, is the communication. Even if there are a lot of things going on, and it seems impossible, take an hour or so to just talk to one another. It may shock some how much communication helps in feeling romantically connected to one another. 2. Be Alone Together – While it may seem out of the question to put time aside, you must prioritize the relationship. Whether this means having a weekly Friday night date, or monthly getaway in Chicago, New York or even wine country, to reconnect by enjoying something new. 3. Try Something New Together – One of the biggest killers of romance is when couples fall into routine. When relationships become predictable, there is little room for surprise and spontaneity, which are the main components of lasting romance. When trying something new, the possibilities are limitless – from a romantic getaway in Chicago to taking a cooking class together. 4. Don’t forget the intimacy – In order to keep romance going, chemistry needs to continue to be met. For chemistry to be met, you must take the time to physically express your love for one another. Part of what kills a romance, is couples lose sight of the physical attraction for one another, or do not take the time to express it. By not expressing it, often times it may feel to your significant other that you are no longer attracted to them. By continuing physical expressions, you are telling each other that you are still attracted to that person. If your own bedroom is unromantic because of dogs barking and children screaming, take a romantic trip somewhere. If you live in Illinois, go to a romantic getaway in Chicago and distance yourself from the home life. If you live somewhere else, find a resort a couple hours away so you can find time to physically reconnect. 5. Recreate the First Date – This may seem silly, but sometimes, playing as if you are strangers or just started dating, maybe an exciting change that will help you. Sometimes for couples in a rut, role playing stimulates their passion for one another and gets them back to where they would like to be.Acting like its your first weekend away by going to some remote hotel or romantic getaway in Chicago, which will cater to you as if you are on your honeymoon can make your relationship feel special and ultimately more romantic. Any of the above could be beneficial to you, in order to try and get back that romantic feeling of butterflies in your stomach when you see your spouse. It is important to recognize however, that while these are ways to reignite the romance, your relationship is much stronger and meaningful than a summer fling. By using some of the influence of the lives you’ve shared together and the memories you have, they may also be enough to salvage the lack of romance. It is just about finding what works for you as a couple, and not giving up.
